Our study aimed to investigate the relationship between δ-catenin expression and whole-brain small-world network in breast cancer patients before chemotherapy using rs-fMRI. The study was based on the hypothesis that different δ-catenin expression levels correspond to distinct brain imaging characteristics. A total of 105 pathologically confirmed breast cancer patients were collected and categorized into high δ-catenin expression (DH, 52 cases) and low expression (DL, 53 cases) groups.

Article Synopsis
  • A certain beneficial microorganism in the rhizosphere enhances plant growth and tolerance to salt stress, but the specific mechanisms at the post-translational modification level were not well understood.
  • Researchers identified various lysine modifications, specifically noting that acetylation levels increased significantly in response to salt stress, affecting a large number of proteins involved in vital processes related to salt tolerance.
  • The study also highlighted how specific acetylation sites on a protective enzyme, thiol peroxidase, play a crucial role in managing reactive oxygen species, thus influencing bacterial growth under salt conditions.

The Schlafen (SLFN) gene family has emerged as a critical subject of study in recent years, given its involvement in an array of cellular functions such as proliferation, differentiation, immune responses, viral infection inhibition, and DNA replication. Additionally, SLFN genes are linked to chemosensitivity, playing a pivotal role in treating malignant tumors. Human SLFNs comprise three domains: the N-terminal, middle (M), and C-terminal.

Target class-focused drug discovery has a strong track record in pharmaceutical research, yet public domain data indicate that many members of protein families remain unliganded. Here we present a systematic approach to scale up the discovery and characterization of small molecule ligands for the WD40 repeat (WDR) protein family. We developed a comprehensive suite of protocols for protein production, crystallography, and biophysical, biochemical, and cellular assays.

Stroke-related cardiovascular diseases have attracted considerable attention, with atrial fibrillation (AF) being among the most frequent complications. Despite increasing clinical evidence, experimental models of stroke-induced AF are still lacking, hindering mechanistic discoveries and the development of adequate therapeutics targeting this stroke-heart syndrome (SHS). This study aims to create a rat model of ischemic stroke-induced AF (ISIAF) and to explore the efficacy and mechanism of Wenxin Keli (WK), an antiarrhythmic Chinese medicine.

, a new orchid species from the Balang Mountain, Sichuan Province, Southwest China, is described and illustrated. It morphologically resembles , but differs in having shorter stems, a reniform epichile and a sub-hemispherical hypochile (spur), obtuse-rounded at the apex. The results of molecular phylogenetic analyses based on nuclear ribosome internal transcribed spacer (nrITS) and four chloroplast DNA markers (K, A-H, M-D and L-F) from 50 species indicate that is closely related to and , also endemic to the Hengduan Mountains.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study examined the differences in causes of undiagnosed pleural effusions between outpatient and inpatient settings, involving 1,080 adult patients from four UK hospitals.
  • - Results showed that malignant effusions were more frequent in outpatients (48.3%) while infections were more common in inpatients (36.2%), indicating significant differences based on patient status.
  • - The findings suggest that diagnostic approaches should be tailored based on whether patients are admitted to the hospital or seen as outpatients.

(), a gram-positive foodborne pathogen that can easily cause listeriosis. It secretes extracellular polymers and forms biofilms that are highly resistant to disinfection methods, such as UV light and germicides, posing risks to food processing equipment and food quality. Dispersion of biofilm is the cycle of its formation in which the bacteria return to planktonic state and become susceptible to antimicrobials, the strategic manipulation of biofilm dispersion is thus heralded as a novel and promising approach for the effective control of biofilm-related infections.

Background: Glioblastoma (GB) remains a formidable challenge in neuro-oncology, with immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) showing limited efficacy in unselected patients. We previously recently established that MAPK/ERK signaling is associated with overall survival following anti-PD-1 and anti-CTLA-4 treatment in recurrent GB. However, the causal relationship between MAPK/ERK signaling and susceptibility to ICB, as well as the mechanisms underlying this association, remain poorly understood.

  • PARP inhibitors (PARPi) are a type of anticancer drug that target cancer cells lacking effective DNA repair mechanisms, known as homologous recombination repair deficiency (HRD).
  • Four main PARPi, Olaparib, Rucaparib, Niraparib, and Talazoparib, have been approved and shown to improve outcomes for patients with specific cancers like ovarian, breast, pancreatic, and prostate.
  • Despite their effectiveness, some patients develop resistance to PARPi, prompting discussions on the underlying mechanisms of this resistance and potential strategies to counteract it.

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are widely used in cancer treatment; however, the emergence of ICI-associated myocarditis (ICI-MC) presents a severe and potentially fatal complication with poorly understood pathophysiological mechanisms. This study aimed to identify crucial immune-related genes in ICI-MC and uncover potential therapeutic targets using bioinformatics.

Methods: Using the GSE180045 dataset, which includes three groups-Group A: ICI patients without immune adverse events, Group B: ICI patients with non-myocarditis immune adverse events, and Group C: ICI patients with myocarditis-we analyzed differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between ICI-MC samples (Group C) and non-myocarditis controls (Groups A and B).

Compound 5p is a 4β-N-substituted podophyllotoxin derivative, which exhibited potent activity toward drug-resistant K562/A02 cells and decreased MDR-1 mRNA expression. Here, we further investigated its detail mechanism and tested its antitumor activity. 5p exerted catalytic inhibition of topoisomerase IIα, and didn't show the inhibitor of topoisomerase I.

A significant body of research has documented the profound changes in global atmospheric conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, there is still an inadequate comprehensive comparison and assessment of countries before, during, and after the pandemic. Variations in restriction policies, human behaviors, and national traits lead to significant differences in how restriction policies affect atmospheric pollution.

Cypripedioideae (slipper orchids; Orchidaceae) currently consist of ∼200 herbaceous species with a strikingly disjunctive distribution in tropical and temperate regions of both hemispheres. In this study, an updated phylogeny with representatives from all five cypripedioid genera was presented based on maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference of plastome and low-copy nuclear genes. Phylogenomic analyses indicated that each genus is monophyletic, but some relationships (e.
