We have used laboratory and synchrotron x-ray diffraction to investigate the structural and chemical changes undergone by polycrystalline RbH(2)PO(4) upon heating within the 30-250 °C temperature interval. Our data show no evidence of the previously reported onset of partial polymerization at T = 96 °C (Park et al 2001 J. Phys.

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of relining on complete dentures by analysis of model measurement.

Methods: 15 edentulous mandibular models were fabricated by close mouth impression, these models were marked and cut at 5 different positions, the alveolar height, width and sectional area were measured, then direct relining was performed on these patients' lower denture (Tokuyama Rebase Fast II). The cases were followed up for 7 days.

Objective: To characterize a Bartonella strain M9HN-SHQ from a blood culture of cat from Henan Province,China.

Methods: The organisms were subcultured in 5% CO2 at 37 degrees C on trypticase soy agar containing 5% sheep blood for 6 to 7 days. We analyzed the isolate using whole-cell fatty acid analysis,Etest for susceptibility testing, random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD), pulsed-field gel electrophoresis(PFGE) and sequence analysis of 16S rRNA, gltA, groEL, ftsZ, rpoB, ribC and 16S-23S rRNA intergenic spacer region.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to identify specific serum protein profiles associated with ovarian cancer by comparing samples from 36 cancer patients and 30 healthy individuals using specialized mass spectrometry.
  • - Researchers found 29 protein peaks that were significantly different between the groups, with three specific peaks identified as potential ovarian cancer biomarkers, displaying high sensitivity and specificity.
  • - The findings support that serum biomarkers can help diagnose ovarian cancer and detect cases related to drug resistance, particularly through the expression of MDR1 and MRP proteins in patients.

The prevalence of heterogeneous vancomycin-intermediate Staphylococcus aureus (hVISA) among 1,012 vancomycin-susceptible methicillin (meticillin)-resistant S. aureus isolates collected from 14 cities in China from 2005 to 2007 was 13 to 16%, as determined by a combination of (i) measurement by the modified population analysis profile-area under the curve method (PAP-AUC) and (ii) estimation from the measured sensitivity and specificity of a screening method. Two hundred isolates from blood were chosen as a subset for measurement of the sensitivities and the specificities of several previously described screening methods by using the results of PAP-AUC as the reference.

Objective: To analyze multilocus sequence typing (MLST) of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains in 2000 and 2005, and get a primary knowledge of MLST Characterization of MRSA.

Methods: Sequence analysis was conducted on seven allelic genes of 29 methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strains and 2 methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) strains and the allelic profiles were gained from internet database.

Results: All 12 MRSA strains in 2000 were sequence type (ST) 239 and 10 MRSA strains in 2005 were ST239, while 7 MRSA strains in 2005 were new types, ST5 (41.

Objective: To search the tissue biomarker in mycosis fungoides (MF) patients by surface enhanced laser desorption/ionization-time of flight-mass spectrometry (SELDI-TOF-MS).

Methods: Skin specimens were collected from 12 MF patients and 15 normal controls to prepare solution of protein. CM10 Proteinchip was used to detect the biomarkers for MF.

In order to identify the proteins associated with Helicobacter pylori colonization in mice, we used 2-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) to analyze the membrane- and soluble-cellular proteins extracted from H. pylori strain 26695 and the mouse-passaged homolog 88-3887. We defined 2- and 3-fold changes in protein expression as the threshold values for differential expression in the membrane-protein and whole-cell-protein fractions, respectively.

As a medical course approach of posing contextualized questions that are based upon "real life" clinical problems, case-based learning (CBL) is used to stimulate and underpin the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and attitudes by clinical cases. Good effects were acquired in the practice of CBL teaching in English applied by College of Stomatology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Responses from both students and teachers reflected that this course approach won their high acceptability, and was worthy of use in selected stomatological courses.

The retrieval of the backscatter cross section in lidar data is of great interest in remote sensing. For the numerical calculation of the backscatter cross section, a deconvolution has to be performed; its determination is therefore an ill-posed problem. Most of the common techniques, such as the well-known method of Gaussian decomposition, make implicit assumptions on both the emitted laser pulse and the scatterers.

Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) transmission of chaotic optical communication (COC) and conventional fiber-optic communication (CFOC) is numerically confirmed and analyzed. For an 80-km-long two-channel communication system, a 1-Gb/s secure message in COC channel and 10-Gb/s digital signal in CFOC channel are simultaneously achieved with 100 GHz channel spacing. Our numerical simulations demonstrate that the COC and CFOC can realize no-crosstalk transmission of 80 km when the peak power of CFOC channel is less than 8dBm.

Helicobacter pylori (H pylori), a gastric pathogen, is a major cause of chronic gastritis and peptic ulcer disease, and is an important risk factor for the development of gastric malignancies. Culture of the bacterium from gastric biopsy is essential for the determination of drug resistance of H pylori. However, the isolation rates of H pylori from infected individuals vary from 23.

Objective: To investigate the possible role of mycobacteria in the pathogenesis of sarcoidosis.

Methods: We used nested polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (nPCR-RFLP) and gene sequencing method to examine 31 formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded specimens (including 19 skin lesions and 12 lymph nodes ) obtained from patients with sarcoidosis, 14 normal skin specimens, and 3 cutaneous tuberculosis specimens.

Results: The 65kD mycobacterial heat shock protein gene was found in 4 out of 19 (21.

Objective: To screen serum biomarkers in patients with mycosis fungoides (MF) using surface-enhanced laser desorption and ionization with time-of-flight detection mass spectrometry (SELDI-TOF-MS) technique.

Methods: Serum was analyzed from 14 patients with MF and 17 controls using CM10 Protein-chip to capture serum proteins, followed by Biomarker Wizard software analysis.

Results: In all specimens, about 131 protein peaks could be detected when the relative molecular weight ranged from 0 to 50 000.

We report the first large genome-wide association study (GWAS) in a Chinese population to identify susceptibility variants for psoriasis using a two-stage case-control design. In the first stage, we carried out a genome-wide association analysis in 1,139 cases and 1,132 controls of Chinese Han ancestry using Illumina Human 610-Quad BeadChips. In the second stage, we took top SNPs forward for replication in two independent samples of 5,182 cases and 6,516 controls of Chinese Han ancestry, and 539 cases and 824 controls of Chinese Uygur ancestry.

A microarray technique for the detection and identification of enteropathogenic bacteria at the species and subspecies levels was developed in this study, and the target bacteria included pathogenic Escherichia coli, Vibrio cholerae, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Salmonella enterica, Campylobacter jejuni, Shigellae, Yersinia enterocolitica, and Listeria monocytogenes. The virulence gene of each pathogen was chosen as the amplification target, labeled with a fluorescence dye by multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and hybridized to the specific virulence gene probes that had been immobilized on a microchip. Stool specimens from 34 patients with diarrhea were tested in this study.
