The interaction between ultrafast, tightly focused lasers and materials has garnered significant interest owing to its distinctive properties. In this study, we present a versatile methodology for the fabrication of tunable plasmonic nanostructures by employing a disordered gold nanoisland-dielectric-metal configuration, achieved through femtosecond laser printing. By reshaping the gold nanoislands and reconfiguring them into nanograting-like structures, the orientation of these nanostructures is influenced by the polarization of the femtosecond laser light, leading to controllable plasmon resonance and polarization-sensitive color display.

Chitosan, as a natural and environmentally friendly material, has attracted significant attention in the field of water treatment. In this study, a Chitosan/poly (dimethyl diallyl ammonium chloride-co-acrylamide) composite hydrogel (CPDA hydrogel) featuring a semi-interpenetrating network structure was synthesized via free radical copolymerization for the removal of the anionic dye Congo Red (CR) from wastewater. SEM-EDS, FTIR, XPS, TG, Zeta potential, and mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP) were employed to analyze the physical and chemical changes in the hydrogel before and after adsorption.

Introduction: RNA splicing is a crucial posttranscriptional process that governs gene expression, and defects in alternative splicing contribute to various diseases, including cancer. Tumor suppressing subtransferable candidate 4 (TSSC4) is a known tumor suppressor and has been identified as part of the U5 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein (snRNP), which is involved in tri-snRNP biogenesis. However, the precise role of TSSC4 in regulating alternative splicing and its impact on tumor growth remain unclear.

Background: Patients with gynecologic cancer who undergo lymphadenectomy are at increased risk of lower extremity lymphedema (LEL). They are encouraged to be alert to the possibility of LEL and take risk-management measures throughout life. However, we know little about the perception for LEL and adherence to risk-management measures of Chinese patients with gynecologic cancer.

Auxin response factors (ARFs) are key transcriptional factors mediating the transcriptional of auxin-related genes that play crucial roles in a range of plant metabolic activities. The characteristics of 47 PeARFs, identified in moso bamboo and divided into three classes, were evaluated. Structural feature analysis showed that intron numbers ranged from 3 to 14, while Motif 1, 2, 7 and 10 were highly conserved, altogether forming DNA-binding and ARF domains.

Hemorrhagic stroke is a major global health problem requiring rapid and accurate diagnosis for effective treatment. Despite advances, current computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) frameworks rarely account for the functional impacts of hemorrhages on specific critical brain regions and lack the detailed assessments essential for precise treatment. To provide detailed insights into hemorrhages, we aim to propose a CAD framework for in-depth hemorrhagic stroke assessment in computed tomography (CT).

Article Synopsis
  • Obese pig breeds like Neijiang (NJ) have great meat quality, while lean breeds like Large White (LW) excel in lean meat percentage and feed efficiency, but neither meets all production needs.
  • This study crossbred NJ and LW pigs to create Neijiang × Large White (NL) pigs, analyzing the carcass and meat quality differences between them and using transcriptomics and metabolomics for deeper insights.
  • Results showed NL pigs outperformed NJ in carcass performance while still retaining NJ's superior meat quality, with multi-omics analysis revealing specific genes and metabolites that correlate with these traits, highlighting successful crossbreeding potential.

Although the iron-nitrogen-carbon (Fe-N-C) catalyst has great potential in zinc-air batteries (ZABs), the insufficient performance and low production of the Fe-N-C catalyst are still the key factors that greatly limit the commercial application. In this study, first, a simple dual melt-salt template method is developed to prepare the hierarchically porous HPFe-N-C catalyst with abundant highly stable Fe-pyridinic-N sites. Then, HPFe-N-C and Fe-phenanthroline are mixed and heated for the mass production of THPFe-N-C with rich highly active Fe-pyrrolic-N sites.

  • The study evaluates the short-term effectiveness of denervation as a treatment for hypertension, specifically targeting patients who have not been on medication.
  • An analysis of four studies with a total of 752 participants showed that denervation significantly lowered both ambulatory and office blood pressure compared to a sham procedure, with no major safety issues reported.
  • While the results are promising for those who can't or choose not to use drug therapy, further research is needed to explore the long-term effects of denervation and to include a larger, more extended patient follow-up.

  • Bacterial diseases from Xanthomonas threaten global agriculture and are hard to control due to their biofilm formation, which increases resistance to treatments.
  • Researchers have created a new green bactericide using supramolecular technology, called DaPA8@β -CD, which can break down biofilms and improve how well the treatment spreads on plant surfaces.
  • DaPA8@β -CD has shown to significantly inhibit and eradicate biofilms better than the previous versions, as well as effectively control citrus bacterial canker in trials, demonstrating its potential as a multifunctional solution for plant disease management.

Historically, antibodies have been divided into two functionally independent domains, the variable (V) region for antigen binding and the constant (C) region for mediating effector functions. However, this classical view of antibody function has been severely challenged by a large and growing number of studies, which reveal long-range conformational interactions and allosteric links between the V and C regions. This review comprehensively summarizes the existing studies on antibody allostery, including allosteric conformational changes induced by covalent modifications or noncovalent ligand binding.

Effective cancer immunotherapy relies on enhancing the host's immune response, particularly by boosting T cell-mediated cytotoxicity against tumor cells. In this study, we identify CWF19-like cell cycle control factor 1 (CWF19L1) as a novel splicing regulator that enhances T cell-mediated cytotoxicity. CWF19L1 interacts prominently with key splicing factors within the nucleus, including components of the U5 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein and the pre-mRNA processing factor 19 (PRPF19) complex.

Astrocyte-derived IL-3 activates the corresponding receptor IL-3Rα in microglia. This cross-talk between astrocytes and microglia ameliorates the pathology of Alzheimer's disease in mice. In this study we investigated the role of IL-3/IL-3Rα cross-talk and its regulatory mechanisms in ischemic stroke.

  • Microplastics (MPs) pollution poses a significant risk to both human and animal health, particularly affecting the liver, which is crucial for metabolism and detoxification.
  • A comprehensive meta-analysis of 118 studies categorized effects of MPs on the livers of fish, mammals, and birds, revealing that MPs can cause liver damage through various mechanisms such as oxidative stress and altered metabolism.
  • The analysis indicated that the severity of liver damage is influenced by factors like the size of MPs, duration of exposure, and the life stage of the organism, with smaller MPs and longer exposure leading to greater harm.

Cysteine (Cys) plays a crucial role in the biological system and many related diseases. However, the detection of Cys in living organisms are still hindered by shortage of small molecule fluorophores that exhibit excitation and emission in the near-infrared region. Herein, we designed and synthesized a high water-soluble Cys probe (Cy7-SS) based on heptamethine cyanine scaffold.

Background: Physical therapy has demonstrated efficacy in managing nonspecific low back pain (NLBP) among patients. Nevertheless, the prevalence of NLBP poses a challenge, as the existing medical infrastructure may be insufficient to care for the large patient population, particularly in geographically remote regions. Telerehabilitation emerges as a promising method to address this concern by offering a method to deliver superior medical care to a greater number of patients with NLBP.
