The assessment of vascular accessibility in patients undergoing hemodialysis is predominantly reliant on manual inspection, a method that is associated with several limitations. In this study, we propose an alternative approach by recording the acoustic signals produced by the arteriovenous fistula (AVF) and employing deep learning techniques to analyze these sounds as an objective complement to traditional AVF evaluation methods. Auscultation sounds were collected from 800 patients, with each recording lasting between 24 and 30 s.

In mammalian species, neural tissues cannot regenerate following severe spinal cord injury (SCI), for which stem cell transplantation is a promising treatment. Neural stem cells (NSCs) have the potential to repair SCI; however, in unfavourable microenvironments, transplanted NSCs mainly differentiate into astrocytes rather than neurons. In contrast, bone mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) promote the differentiation of NSCs into neurons and regulate inflammatory responses.

Background: This study investigated the impact of higher interfragmentary compression force (IFCF) on the stability of locking plate fixation in lateral tibial plateau fractures.

Methods: Biomechanical experiments and finite element analysis (FEA) were employed to compare the performance of the AO cancellous lag screw (AOCLS) and a newly developed combined cancellous lag screw (CCLS).

Results: The results demonstrated that the CCLS provided a higher IFCF without the risk of over-screwing, significantly improving fixation stability.

"Solid-liquid excipients" co-production is one of the typical processing methods of excipients used from ancient times to the present day, and is widely applied in various processing schools and regional specialty varieties. This method significantly reduces the toxicity of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM), moderates medicinal properties, and enhances clinical efficacy. However, modern scientific research has given it limited attention, and many co-production methods of "solid-liquid excipients" have not been applied in production and practice.

Background: Retroperitoneal liposarcoma (RLPS) is a mesenchymal malignant tumor characterized by different degrees of adipocytic differentiation. Well-differentiated liposarcoma (WDLPS) and dedifferentiated liposarcoma (DDLPS) are two of the most common subtypes of RLPS, exhibiting clear differences in biological behaviors and clinical prognosis. The metabolic features and genomic characteristics remain unclear.

The one-step oxidation of benzene to phenol represents a significant and promising advancement in modern industries focused on the production of high-value-added chemical products. Nevertheless, challenges persist in achieving sufficient catalytic selectivity and preventing over-oxidation. Inspired by copper enzymes, we present a nonsymmetric dicopper complex ([CuII2(TPMAN)(μ-OH)(HO)], 1) for the selective oxidation of benzene to phenol.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a progressively developing condition primarily characterized by the deterioration of articular cartilage and the proliferation of bone, along with ongoing inflammation. Although the precise pathogenesis remains somewhat elusive, restoring the homeostatic balance of the intra-articular microenvironment is crucial for the management of OA. Intra-articular injection of medication is one of the most direct and effective treatment methods; however, most injectable drugs used for osteoarthritis treatment, due to their rapid breakdown, quick release, poor biological activity, and frequent injections, leading to increased risk of infection and suboptimal therapeutic outcomes.

Background: This study explores the potential of the deep learning-based convolutional neural network (CNN) to automatically recognize MMD using MRA images from atherosclerotic disease (ASD) and normal control (NC).

Methods: In this retrospective study in China, 600 participants (200 MMD, 200 ASD and 200 NC) were collected from one institution as an internal dataset for training and 60 from another institution were collected as external testing set for validation. All participants were divided into training (N = 450) and validation sets (N = 90), internal testing set (N = 60), and external testing set (N = 60).

The S(D) + D → SD + D reaction is a prototype insertion chemical reaction that involves spin-orbit interactions in the exit channel. In this work, we report spin-orbit state-resolved differential cross sections (DCSs) of this reaction obtained by crossed beam experiments at collision energies of 266.2 and 206.

The tendon-bone junction (TBJ), a critical transitional zone where tendons and bones connect, is particularly prone to injury due to the forces from muscle contractions and skeletal movements. Once tendon-bone injuries occur, the complex original tissue structure is difficult to restore, increasing the risk of re-tear. In this study, we initially established a rabbit model of tendon-bone injury and treated it using either interference screw or suture anchor.

As the primary grain crop in China, wheat holds a significant position in the country's agricultural production, circulation, consumption, and various other aspects. However, the presence of imperfect grains has greatly impacted wheat quality and, subsequently, food security. In order to detect perfect wheat grains and six types of imperfect grains, a method for the fast and non-destructive identification of imperfect wheat grains using hyperspectral images was proposed.

The extensive use of scarce, expensive, and toxic elements in high-performance metal alloys restricts their sustainable development. Here we propose a novel alternative alloying-element design strategy that combines physicochemical-factor screening, a "black-box" interpretative method based on SHapley Additive exPlanation analysis, and sensitivity analyses of elemental influence. A "white-box" model of alloy compositions and properties is therefore established that enables the rational selection of abundant elements and the efficient designs of alloys with substitution for scarce alloying elements.

  • Catalytic CO reduction is challenging, but the Ni-Fe carbon monoxide dehydrogenase ([NiFe]-CODH) shows effective reversible conversion of CO, highlighting the importance of bimetallic configurations in catalyst design.
  • Despite advances, previous NiFe biomimetic models struggled with CO reduction, emphasizing the need for precise metal arrangements for improved functionality.
  • The study presents a new heterobimetallic NiFe complex that outperforms the NiNi catalyst in photocatalytic CO reduction, utilizing a phenanthroline ligand for dual-site activation, thus offering insights into designing better catalytic systems.

  • Pulmonary sarcomatoid carcinoma (PSC) is a highly aggressive form of non-small-cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) that is resistant to traditional treatments like radiation and chemotherapy and often leads to rapid metastasis and poor patient outcomes.
  • A case study of a 65-year-old man with recurrent PSC showed severe complications like superior vena cava syndrome and significant treatment challenges after several therapies, including chemotherapy and localized treatments.
  • The use of iodine-125 (I) seed brachytherapy with a 3D-printed template resulted in partial remission and improved patient symptoms, suggesting that this could be a promising localized treatment for PSC.
