Scope: Polyphenols from the phytoestrogen group, including pterostilbene (PTS), are known for their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer effects. In recent reports, phytoestrogens attenuate age-related diseases; however, their pro-longevity effects in healthy models in mammals remain unknown. As longevity research demonstrates age-related transcriptomic signatures in human blood, the current study hypothesizes that phytoestrogen-supplemented diet may induce changes in gene expression that ultimately confer pro-longevity benefits.

A major obstacle to building nanoscale magnetic devices or even experimentally studying novel nanomagnetic spin textures is the present lack of a simple and robust method to fabricate various nano-structured alloys. Here, theoretical and experimental investigations were conducted to understand the underlying physical mechanisms of magnetic particle self-assembly in zero applied magnetic field. By changing the amount of NaOH added during the synthesis, we demonstrate that the resulting morphology of the assembled FeCo structure can be tuned from zero-dimensional (0D) nanoparticles to one-dimensional (1D) chains, and even three-dimensional (3D) networks.

We previously discovered as a new antidepressant in correlation to its function of stimulating neurogenesis. Herein, several different scaffolds (stilbene, 1,3-diphenyl 1-propene, 1,3-diphenyl 2-propene, 1,2-diphenyl acrylo-1-nitrile, 1,2-diphenyl acrylo-2-nitrile, 1,3-diphenyl trimethylamine), further varied through substitutions of twelve amide substituents plus the addition of a methylene unit and an inverted amide, were examined to elucidate the SARs for promoting adult rat neurogenesis. Most of the compounds could stimulate proliferation of progenitors, but just a few chemicals possessing a specific structural profile, exemplified by diphenyl acrylonitrile and , showed better activity than the clinical drug in promoting newborn cells differentiation into mature neurons.

Fatty acid content and lipid oxidation products were compared in chicken breast and leg meats derived from birds fed on animal-fat- and vegetable-oil-based diets, supplemented with ginseng prong powder. The first experiment examined polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) content and the formation of primary and secondary lipid oxidation products in meats stored at refrigeration temperatures (4 °C) for up to 10 days, while the second experiment examined similar changes in the poultry meats when frozen stored at -18 °C, for up to six months. Results showed that initial lipid hydroperoxide concentrations increased in both breast and leg meat within the first week of refrigerated storage and also was ongoing during the first three to four months of frozen storage.

The mechanisms of the transplantation of neural stem cells (NSCs) in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease remain poorly understood. In this study, NSCs were transplanted into the hippocampal CA1 region of the rTg (tau P301L) 4510 mouse model, a tauopathy model that is thought to reflect the tau pathology associated with Alzheimer's disease. The results revealed that NSC transplantation reduced the abnormal aggregation of tau, resulting in significant improvements in the short-term memory of the tauopathy model mice.

Background: Treatment of lower limb post-traumatic osteomyelitis used to be a staged process, with radical debridement of bone and soft tissues at first stage, followed by a second-stage limb reconstruction operation to restore the limb integrity. The aim of the present study was to investigate the protective effect of dexmedetomidine (Dex) on traumatic brain injury (TBI), and further evaluate whether the underlying neuroprotective mechanisms are associated with neurological apoptosis and the expression of 70 kDa heat shock protein (HSP70) in the hippocampus. A total of 90 adult male Sprague‑Dawley rats were randomly assigned into 3 groups (n=30/group): Sham, TBI and Dex groups.
