Background: Berberine is an isoquinoline alkaloid mainly extracted from Rhizoma Coptidis and has been shown to possess a potent inhibitory activity against bacterial. However, the role of berberine in anti-bacterial action has not been extensively studied.
Methods: The animal model was established to investigate the effects of berberine on bacterial and LPS infection.

Objective: To find out the correlation between the content of taxifolin in Polygonum orientale and the storage time.
Method: HPLC was used to determine taxifolin. The chromatographic condition was as following: Diamonsil C18 column (4.
Objective: To establish an identification method of Cudrania tricuspidata and Cudrania cochinchinensis, and their medicinal parts, and analyse the species of commercial drug Cudraniae Tricuspidatae Radix et Caulis.
Methods: TLC and First-order Derivative UV Spectrophotometry were used.
Results: Commercial drugs 5, 6, 7 and 9 belonged to the stem of Cudrania cochinchinensis, commercial drug 1, 2, 3 ,4 and 8 were neither Cudrania tricuspidata nor Cudrania cochinchinensis.

In situ TLC/FTIR technique has tremendous potential in the analysis of complex mixtures. However, the progress in this technique was quite slow. The reason is that conventional stationary phase has strong absorption in FTIR spectrum and thus brings about severe interference in the detection of samples.

Gels are gaining extensive interest owing to their versatile applications in fields such as drug delivery, tissue engineering, cosmetics, templated materials and food industry. Surfactants have an ability to self-assemble into a variety of supramolecular aggregate structures and morphologies. Of particular interest in resent years are surfactant-based gels, one special class of materials due to surfactant assemblies resulting in viscoelastic solid-like rheological behaviors.

Methods: The chemical constituents were separated by means of silica gel and Sephadex LH-20 chromatography, and their structures were identified by spectra of 1H-NMR, 13 C-NMR.
Results: Seven compounds were isolated and identified as Quercetin (I),5,7,4'-trihydroxyldihydroisoflavone (II), (13alpha, 14beta, 17alpha, 20R)-Lanosta-7, 24-diene-3beta-ol (III), (13alpha, 14beta,17alpha, 20R)-Lanosta-7,24-diene-3beta-0-acetate (IV), Taxifolin (V), Dihydromorin (VI), Cycloartocarpin(VII).
Objective: To compare the chemical compositions in the expressed oil before and after processed of princes-feather fruit.
Methods: Making use of the GC-MS to compare the chemical composition in the expressed oil before and after processed of princes-feather fruit.
Results: 4 chemical compounds were detected in the expressed oil of the raw and 7 of the processed.
To investigate the antioxidant effect of vitexin-4''-O-glucoside, a flavone glycoside, isolated from the leaves of Crataegus pinnatifida Bge. var. major, we developed a simple and sensitive high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method to determine levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) in ECV304 cell culture medium after induction by tert-butyl-hydroperoxide (TBHP).
