Objectives: The aim of this study is to presents an experimental method for surgical guide confection using an intraoral scanner to obtain a 3D model of the patient's complete denture and compare its accuracy with the conventional methodology using computed tomography.
Study Design: This prospective in-vitro study used 30 polyurethane pre-manufactured mandibles which were divided into two groups, conventional technique (group I) and a new method using intraoral scanner (group II), establishing the virtually planned position of the dental implants as a control group, considered as the gold standard for postoperative comparison.
Results: The difference between these methods is close to zero and not statistically significant (p > 0.
Context: Previous studies have shown that safe venous cannulation is difficult when the internal jugular vein (IJV) overlies the carotid artery (CA) as the probability of inadvertent arterial penetration is greatly increased.
Aims: The goal of this study was to examine the anatomical relationships of the IJV and CA as a function of the degree of head rotation in order to minimize the risk for CA puncture.
Settings And Design: Our study was a prospective study using a sample of 496 Emergency Department patients.
Introduction: Propofol is becoming a widely used drug in patient sedation for patients that undergo endoscopic procedures. There are no reports on the use of propofol in public hospitals in Peru.
Objective: To describe our experience in propofol use in colonoscopies performed at Hospital Nacional Cayetano Heredia administered by a dedicated nurse with clinical and pulse oximetry monitorization in procedures performed by gastroenterologists and in-training residents of gastroenterology.
Imatinib is one of the most recent medications used for the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST). It is an orally administered protein-tyrosine kinase inhibitor, an enzyme which is produced by BCR-ABL fusion which results from translocation of 9:22 chromosome (Philadelphia chromosome). Imatinib blocks proliferation and induces apoptosis of BCR-ABL-expression in CML.

To characterize the cellular basis of IgE responses in HIV-positive (HIV+) children, we obtained central (bone marrow [BM], thymus) and peripheral (Peyer's patches [PP], mesenteric [MLN], and other lymph nodes [OLN], spleen), lymphoid organs from two children with AIDS (females, 2 and 8 years old), and from a non-HIV-infected trauma victim (female, 5 years old) at autopsy. PP were obtained from one of the HIV+ children (2 yr old) and from the non-infected child, but no PP were detected in small intestine of the 8-yr-old HIV+ child. Numbers of lymphocytes bearing surface IgE, CD19, CD3, CD4, and CD8 in lymphoid organs were determined (flow cytometry) and evaluated for expression of epsilon-specific (E) mRNA (RT-PCR).

The number of HIV-infected infants and children is increasing. This chapter addresses the natural history of the disease, opportunistic and other infections in afflicted patients, lymphoproliferative syndromes, cardiovascular disease, HIV nephropathy, gastrointestinal pathology, neuropathologic findings, and neoplasms.
