Male sterility in peach (Prunus persica L.), characterized by the absence of fertile pollen grains in the anther, is determined by a recessive allele in homozygosis of the major gene located on chromosome 6. Developing tightly linked molecular markers can help identify appropriate peach parents or male-sterile plants for early culling in segregating progenies, thereby increasing breeding efficiency.

As the third active gas signal molecule in plants, hydrogen sulfide (HS) plays important roles in physiological metabolisms and biological process of fruits and vegetables during postharvest storage. In the present study, the effects of HS on enhancing resistance against soft rot caused by Botryosphaeria dothidea and the involvement of jasmonic acid (JA) signaling pathway in kiwifruit during the storage were investigated. The results showed that 20 μL L HS fumigation restrained the disease incidence of B.

In this study, gum arabic (GA) coating was employed to mitigate chilling injury in peach fruit, and it was observed that 10% GA coating exhibited the most favorable effect. GA coating significantly inhibited the decline of AsA content and enhanced antioxidant enzyme activity in peach fruit, thereby enhancing reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging rate while reducing its accumulation. Simultaneously, GA coating inhibited the activity of oxidative degradation enzymes for phenolics and enhanced synthase activity, thus maintaining higher levels of total phenolics and flavonoids in fruits.

Introduction: Apple polyphenols (AP), derived from the peel of mature-green apples, are widely used as natural plant-derived preservatives in the postharvest preservation of numerous horticultural products.

Methods: The goal of this research was to investigate how AP (at 0.5% and 1.

Cucumber fruit is very sensitive to chilling injury, which rapidly depreciates their commodity value. Herein, the effect of fucoidan treatment on cucumber under cold stress were investigated. Fucoidan treatment of cold-stored cucumber alleviated the occurrence of chilling injury, delayed weight loss, lowered electrolyte leakage and respiration rate, and retarded malondialdehyde accumulation.

Introduction: Chilling injury is a major hindrance to cucumber fruit quality during cold storage.

Methods And Results: In this study, we evaluated the effects of fucoidan on fruit quality, reactive oxygen species homeostasis, and energy metabolism in cucumbers during cold storage. The results showed that, compared with the control cucumber fruit, fucoidan-treated cucumber fruit exhibited a lower chilling injury index and less weight loss, as well as reduced electrolyte leakage and malondialdehyde content.

is a major pathogen responsible for postharvest kiwifruit soft rot. This study aimed to determine the influence of hydrogen sulfide (HS) on postharvest resistance to kiwifruit soft rot and the antifungal role of HS against . The results indicated that HS (20 μl L) restricted the lesion area following inoculation with .

7-Demethoxytylophorine (DEM), a natural water-soluble phenanthroindolizidine alkaloid, has a great potential for suppression of growth. In the present study, we investigated the ability of DEM to confer resistance against in harvested "Newhall" navel orange and the underlying mechanism. Results from the experiment showed that DEM treatment delayed blue mold development.

Postharvest fungal infection can accelerate the quality deterioration of Ponkan fruit and reduce its commodity value. is the causal pathogen of blue mold in harvested citrus fruits, not only causing huge fungal decay but also leading to quality deterioration. In our preliminary study, antofine (ATF) was found to have a great potential for significant suppression of growth.

Background: Potassium (K) is important in the regulation of plant growth and development. It is the most abundant mineral element in kiwifruit, and its content increases during fruit ripening. However, how K transporter works in kiwifruit postharvest maturation is not yet clear.

Ethylene can accelerate the postharvest ripening process of kiwifruit, while indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) delays it. However, the molecular mechanism by which ethylene regulates IAA degradation is unclear. Here, we found that ethephon promotes the degradation of free IAA in kiwifruit.

Background: Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) is one of the most important economic crops and is susceptible to various abiotic stresses. The valine-glutamine (VQ) motif-containing proteins are plant-specific proteins with a conserved "FxxhVQxhTG" amino acid sequence that regulates plant growth and development.

This work investigates the role of hydrogen sulfide (HS) in the browning and regulating the antioxidant defensive system in fresh-cut Chinese water chestnuts. The samples were fumigated with 0, 10, and 15 μl L of HS and stored at 10°C for 8 days. The results indicated that the HS treatment significantly inhibited the browning of fresh-cut Chinese water chestnuts, reduced superoxide anion ( ) production rate and HO content accumulation, promoted the increase of total phenol content, and enhanced activities of catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), and glutathione reductase (GR) ( < 0.

WRKY transcription factors belong to a superfamily that is involved in many important biological processes, including plant development and senescence. However, little is known about the transcriptional regulation mechanisms of WRKY genes involved in kiwifruit postharvest ripening. Here, we isolated a WRKY gene from the kiwifruit genome and named it AcWRKY40.

Cytokinins play a central role in delaying senescence, reducing oxidative damage and maintaining plant growth during drought. This study showed that the ectopic expression of ProRE-deleted MdIPT5b, a key enzyme involved in cytokinin metabolism, increased the drought tolerance of transgenic Malus domestica (apple) callus and Solanum lycopersicum (tomato) seedlings by maintaining cytokinin homeostasis, and thus maintaining redox balance. Under restricted watering regimes, the yields of transgenic tomato plants were enhanced.

Bagging is widely practiced to produce high quality and unblemished fruit; however, little is currently known about the effect of bagging on flavor and nutritional quality of cucumber fruits. Here we determined the influence of bagging on fruit quality of cucumber ( L.) using three genotypes from different geographic groups.

SlPIN8 is expressed specifically within tomato pollen, and that it is involved in tomato pollen development and intracellular auxin homeostasis. The auxin (IAA) transport protein PIN-FORMED (PIN) plays key roles in various aspects of plant development. The biological role of the auxin transporter SlPIN8 in tomato development remains unclear.

Plants experiencing salt-induced stress often reduce cytokinin levels during the early phases of stress-response. Interestingly, we found that the cytokinin content in the apple rootstock "robusta" was maintained at a high level under salt stress. Through screening genes involved in cytokinin biosynthesis and catabolism, we found that the high expression levels of IPT5b in robusta roots were involved in maintaining the high cytokinin content.

Lower promoter activity is closely associated with lower MdPIN1b expression in the M9 interstem, which might contribute to the dwarfing effect in apple trees. Apple trees grafted onto dwarfing rootstock Malling 9 (M9) produce dwarfing tree architecture with high yield and widely applying in production. Previously, we have reported that in Malus 'Red Fuji' (RF) trees growing on M9 interstem and Baleng Crab (BC) rootstock, IAA content was relatively higher in bark tissue of M9 interstem than that in scion or rootstock.
