Article Synopsis
  • Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a serious cancer with high rates of illness and death, driving research into new treatment targets through gene-protein relationships.
  • * In this study, researchers analyzed data from multiple sources to identify 10 proteins associated with HCC risk, highlighting the importance of proteins like TFPI2 and ALDH1A1.
  • * The findings suggest that targeting these proteins could lead to new therapies for HCC and contribute to the overall fight against cancer.

Two series of lanthanoid (Ln)-containing polyoxometalates (POMs) {[Ln(ampH)(HO)(ampH)(PWO)]·21HO (Ln = Tb, = 0 (), Ln = Er, = 1 ()) and K[Ln(ampH)(HO)(SiWO)]·23HO (Ln = Tb (), Er ()) (ampH = (aminomethyl) phosphonic acid)} have been synthesized with tri-lacunary Keggin-type POMs containing different types of heteroatoms. Compounds and display neutral organic-inorganic hybrid POM molecules containing {Ln(ampH)} ({Ln}) cores sandwiched by two {PWO} units. By changing the heteroatoms from P to Si, the extended 2D networks of and were successfully isolated where the adjacent {Ln} clusters were connected by {SiWO} moieties.

Two novel polynuclear dysprosium (Dy)-containing polytungstoarsenates, CsKNa[(AsWO)DyWO(HO)]·40HO () and CsKNa[(AsWO)DyWO(HO)(μ-OH)(OH)]·78HO (), have been synthesized via the reaction of the preformed polyoxometalate (POM) precursor [AsWO(HO)] and Dy ions through controlling pH. The polyanion of can be described as a dimer of two similar trimers {(AsWO)DyWO(HO)} that are linked by Dy cation and two μ-oxo groups, and the Dy(III) ions in are arranged in a linear fashion. Compound presenting an interesting W-shaped structure, assembly composed of a dimeric {(AsWO)WDyO(HO)}, a trimer {(AsWO)WDyO(OH)(HO)}, and a particular sandwiched {(AsWO)WDyO(μ-OH)(HO)} segment concatenated by μ-oxo groups.

The expression and biological function of long intergenic noncoding RNA00265 (LINC00265) in gastric cancer (GC) have not yet been explored. This study aimed to detect LINC00265 expression in GC tissues and cell lines, investigate its roles in the proliferation of GC cells in vitro, and elucidate the regulatory mechanisms of LINC00265 action. It was found that LINC00265 expression was significantly upregulated in GC tissue samples and cell lines compared with their normal counterparts.

Background: Readmission is a commonly accepted parameter to evaluate surgical quality, but previous studies reported inconsistent results in radical gastrectomy. The purpose of our study is to clarify the prevalence, potential causes, and risk factors of 30-d readmission after radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer.

Methods: PubMed and Embase were systematically searched from inception to September 2018 for any possible inclusion.

Background: The prognostic value of Stathmin 1 (STMN1) in malignant solid tumors remains controversial. Thus, we conducted this meta-analysis to summarize the potential value of STMN1 as a biomarker for predicting overall survival in patients with solid tumor.

Methods: We systematically searched eligible studies in PubMed, Web of Science, and EMBASE from the establishment date of these databases to September 2018.

Background: Several studies were conducted to investigate the prognostic value of pretreatment serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) level in pancreatic cancer (PC), but the results were inconsistent. This study aims to comprehensively assess the prognostic value of pretreatment serum LDH level in PC patients by combining the data of the published literatures on this topic.

Methods: Embase, PubMed, and Web of Science were completely retrieved until June, 2018.

Background: European Hernia Society guidelines suggested that the evidence of mesh augmentation for the prevention of incisional hernia (IH) was weak. In addition, previous systematic reviews seldom focused on quality of life and cost-effectiveness related to mesh placement. Therefore, an updated meta-analysis was performed to clarify quality of life, cost-effectiveness, the safety, and effectiveness of mesh reinforcement in preventing the incidence of IH.
