Background And Aim: Hepatic fibrosis is a common outcome of chronic liver injury and can eventually lead to cirrhosis, which is a major public health concern. Hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) are the major producers of extracellular matrix (ECM) and regulate the synthesis and decomposition of ECM, but the specific mechanism of them remains unclear. Transient receptor potential channel 6 (TRPC6), a non-selective cation channel, plays an important role in organic fibrosis.

While proton exchange membrane water electrolyzers (PEMWEs) are essential for realizing practical hydrogen production, the trade-off among activity, stability, and cost of state-of-the-art iridium (Ir)-based oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts for PEMWE implementation is still prohibitively challenging. Ir minimization coupled with mass activity improvement of Ir-based catalysts is a promising strategy to address this challenge. Here, we present a discovery demonstrating that boron doping facilitates the one-dimensional (1D) anisotropic growth of IrO crystals, as supported by both experimental and theoretical evidence.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is caused by a variety of factors, and one of the most important factors is gut microbiota dysbiosis. An imbalance in the gut mincrobiota have been shown to change the concentrations of lipopolysaccharide and short-chain fatty acids. These microorganisms synthesize substances that can influence the levels of a variety of metabolites and cause multiple diseases through the immune response, fatty acid metabolism, and amino acid metabolism pathways.

To improve the gelling properties of konjac glucomannan/curdlan (KGM/CUD) composite hydrogels, KGM/CUD composite hydrogels were treated by freeze-thawing. Herein, we focus on the effects of freeze-thaw cycles, freezing temperature, and freezing time on the structural and mechanical properties of KGM/CUD composite hydrogels. SEM and SAXS results showed that ice crystals generated by freezing extruded the molecular chains and increased the cross-linking density between molecular chains, which resulted in a denser gel microstructure.

The constrained enzymatic activity and aggregation challenges encountered of nanozymes pose an obstacle to their practical utility, necessitating a strategy to alleviate this problem and improve the enzymatic catalytic efficiency. Herein, MOF-confined ultrafine ZnIrO clusters (ZnIrO/ZnIrMOFs) nanozyme have been synthesized by controlling the in-situ growth of ZnIrO via a one-pot method. Notably, due to the domain-limiting effect of MOF, the ZnIrO clusters with small size grew uniformly in the structure of ZnIrMOFs nanosheets, while the presence of Zn atoms improved the crystallinity of the MOF phase and the dispersion of ZnIrO clusters.

The cleavage of the benzene-oxygen (C-O(C)) bond of the lignin β-O-4 linkage is expected to relieve condensation of the degradation product and improve the product value. Nevertheless, the electrochemical breaking of the C-O(C) bond has not been achieved yet due to the high dissociation energy (∼409 kJ mol) and the easy over-reduction of aromatic compounds. Here, we report an aqueous electrochemical reduction strategy for breaking C-O(C) bonds via the regulation of molecular adsorption.
