Bone tissue engineering (BTE) is a complex biological process involving the repair of bone tissue with proper neuronal network and vasculature as well as bone surrounding soft tissue. Synthetic biomaterials used for BTE should be biocompatible, support bone tissue regeneration, and eventually be degraded in situ and replaced with the newly generated bone tissue. Recently, various forms of bone graft materials such as hydrogel, nanofiber scaffolds, and 3D printed composite scaffolds have been developed for BTE application.

This study presents a thrombin-loaded cationized chitosan (TCCS) sponge with highly effective hemostatic and antibacterial activity. The TCCS sponge, prepared using a multistep method, features a porous structure, favorable mechanical properties, excellent water absorption ability, and shape recovery triggered by water or blood. The TCCS sponge exhibited strong antibacterial activity against Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli.

The prevention of aseptic loosening and peri-implantitis is crucial for the success of dental implant surgery. In this study, different doses of Ag-implanted TiN/Ag nanomultilayers were prepared on the sandblasting with large grit and acid etching (SLA)-Ti surface using a multiarc ion-plating system and an ion-implantation system, respectively.
