In biosensing analysis, the activity of enzyme systems is limited by their fragility, and substrates catalyzed by monoenzymes tend to undergo spontaneous decomposition during ineffective mass transfer processes. In this study, we propose a novel strategy to encapsulate the glucose oxidase and horseradish peroxidase (GOx&HRP) cascade catalytic system within the hydrophilic zeolite imidazole framework ZIF-90. By leveraging the specific pore structure of ZIF-90, we effectively immobilized GOx and HRP molecules in their three-dimensional conformations, which improved the catalytic activity of the encapsulated enzymes compared with that of free GOx and HRP in various harsh environments.

Coagulation factor XIa (FXIa) is associated with a low risk of bleeding and has been identified as an effective and safe target for the development of novel anticoagulant drugs. In this study, we established an ultrasensitive competitive dual-enzyme cascade signal amplification method for the quantitative analysis and screening of FXIa inhibitors. Due to the specific recognition of FXIa's active site by the aptamer AptE40, the AptE40-QDs-EK recognition probe modified with enterokinase (EK) and the aptamer AptE40, was attached to the MNPs-FXIa capture probe.

The coastal environment is an important ecosystem connecting land and sea, and arsenite (As(III)) in coastal seawater can seriously affect human health through the food chain. However, the effects of dissolved organic matter (DOM) extracted from coastal algae and rivers on As(III) photooxidation remain unclear. Results show that coastal algal DOM (CA-DOM) is significantly more effective than Suwannee River natural organic matter (SRNOM) in photooxidation of As(III), with a rate 8.

Thrombin plays a critical role in hemostasis and hemolysis, and is a significant biomarker for blood-related diseases. Detection and inhibitors screening of thrombin are essential in medical research. In this study, we developed a fluorescent sensor based on the interaction between quantum dots (QDs) and fibrinogen (Fib) for thrombin detection and its inhibitors screening.

Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a rare autosomal recessive neuromuscular disease. Nusinersen sodium (NS) is the world's first antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) drug for SMA precise targeted therapy. However, the limited half-life of oligonucleotides and their tendency to accumulate in hepatic and renal tissues presented significant challenges for clinical investigation and therapeutic drug monitoring.

Article Synopsis
  • Sediment-adsorbed Dissolved Organic Matter (SDOM) plays a key role in the carbon cycle along the coasts, but its transport dynamics in China remain poorly understood.
  • This study analyzed the stable isotopic compositions and molecular characteristics of SDOM from various coastal regions in China, finding that most carbon and nitrogen originate from terrestrial sources, with human impacts notable in the South China Sea.
  • The research identified significant variations in the chemical diversity of SDOM based on environmental factors and sediment sources, highlighting the dominance of lignins and saturated compounds like proteins in coastal SDOM.

Arsenic (As) contamination in realgar mining areas poses a severe environmental and health risk, highlighting the critical need for effective strategies to manage As migration, particularly in its particulate and bioavailable states. Soil erosion and water leaching serve as significant pathways for spreading As, emphasizing the imperative to curtail its mobility. In the present study, we proposed an effective strategy that combines the utilization of polyacrylamide (PAM), nano-SiO (NS), and ferrihydrite (Fh) to elevate the stability of As in soils from a realgar mining area.

The investigation of peptide drugs has become essential in the development of innovative medications for hypertension. In this study, a sensitive high-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) method was developed to determine the plasma concentration and stability of the antihypertensive peptide FR-6 in rats. An isotopically labeled peptide (with an unchanged sequence) was utilized as an internal standard (IS) for validation purposes.

Photo-reduction of arsenic (As) by hydrated electron (e) and recovery of elemental arsenic (As(0)) is a promising pathway to treat As-bearing wastewater. However, previously reported sulfite/UV system needs large amounts of sulfite as the source of e. This work suggests a sulfite/iodide/UV approach that is more efficient and consumes much less chemical reagents to remove As(III) and As(V) and recover valuable As(0) from wastewater, hence preventing the production of large amounts of As-containing hazardous wastes.

The persistent and photo-induced free radicals of biochar play significant roles in the transformation or degradation of inorganic and organic pollutants. However, the redox capacity of biochar for arsenite (As(III)) photochemistry under different pH conditions remains unclear. In this study, we discovered that solar radiation primarily expedited the oxidation of As(III) by biochar by augmenting the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS).

Riverine transport of carbon from the land to the oceans plays a significant role in global carbon cycle. However, multiple processes can affect aquatic carbon cycling, and the carbon sources and processing in river systems are still elusive. Here, we analysed the water chemistry and dual carbon isotopes (δC and ΔC) of dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) and particulate organic carbon (POC) from mixed karst and non-karst subtropical monsoonal catchments, southwest China.

The toxicity and mobility of antimony (Sb) are strongly influenced by the redox transformation of widely spread 2-line ferrihydrite (Fh) in natural soils and sediments. This study investigated the transformation and redistribution of adsorbed antimonite (Sb(III)) during Fe(II)-catalyzed recrystallization of Fh under anaerobic conditions. X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and synchrotron based X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) were utilized to characterize the mineralogy and morphology of generated minerals as well as the speciation of Sb and Fe.

The high frequency of acid rain in southern China has captured public and official concern since 1980s. Subsequently, gas emission reduction measures have been implemented to improve the air quality. Variations in SO emission intensities can influence the sulfur and oxygen isotopic compositions of sulfate in rainwater, since atmospheric sulfate is mainly formed via the oxidation of sulfur gases from natural and anthropogenic sources.

Rainwater chemistry plays an important role in the earth-surficial ecosystem, but studies on rainwater chemical composition of karst agro-ecosystem are rare. To explore the rainwater alkalization and the provenance of components responsible for neutralization, two-years chemical monitoring of rainwater was carried out in a karst agricultural catchment in Southwest China. The main findings suggest that SO, NO, Ca, and NH are the principal ions.
