This study examined the impact of acid hydrolysis, tempo oxidation, and mechanical grinding on the physical, thermal, and structural properties of α-chitin nanocrystals and nanofibers. The manufacturing methods could influence the diameter, functional groups, and crystal patterns of the resulting nanoparticles. Analysis of the DLS results revealed that the size of acidic nanocrystals were smaller and showed improved dispersibility.

Between the countless chemical substances applied in agriculture, 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) herbicide is considered as a toxic and carcinogenic pollutant which is difficult to remove from water due to its biological and chemical stability and high solubility. The goal of this study was photocatalytic degradation of 2,4-D, using AgPO/TiO nanoparticles under visible light. The AgPO/TiO nanoparticles were characterized using XRD, FESEM and EDS analysis to investigate its crystal structure and elemental compounds.

A simple approach for the synthesis of spiroacenaphthylene-pyranopyrazole derivatives was achieved via the reaction between acenaphthoquinone, pyrazolones, and activated methylene compounds (malononitrile derivatives) in water as a green solvent without using any catalyst in order to avoid the use of transition metal. This method has the advantages of mild reaction condition, short reaction time, easy workup, excellent yields, and avoidance of environmentally hazardous solvents.

Sesame cake is a by-product of sesame oil industry. In this study, the effect of extraction methods (maceration and sonication) and solvents (ethanol, methanol, ethanol/water (50:50), methanol/water (50:50), and water) on the antioxidant properties of sesame cake extracts are evaluated to determine the most suitable extraction method for optimal use of this product. Total phenolic content is measured according to the Folin-Ciocalteu method and antioxidant activities of each extract are evaluated with the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), β-carotene bleaching, and ferric reducing/antioxidant power (FRAP) methods.
