Plants rely on various physiological and molecular defense mechanisms against biotic stresses such as herbivore insects. Many entomopathogenic fungi synthesize protein molecules that can trigger these plant defenses. This laboratory study characterized the bioactivity of a partially purified protein derived from (ARSEF 2860) against whitefly, (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae), which is an economically important pest of agricultural and horticultural crops worldwide.

Mesoporous carbons (MC) have attracted a tremendous amount of interest due to their efficient molecular transport properties. However, the limited number of active sites and low microporosity generally impede their use for practical applications. Herein, we have fabricated Mg and N co-doped mesoporous carbon (Mg-NMC) with high microporosity via one-pot synthetic route followed by further steam activation.

We report herein five new coordination polymers of general formula [LnNa(C(6)H(5)CO(2))(4)] where Ln = Y (6), Tb (7), Er (8), [DyNa(CH(3)CO(2))(4)(MeOH)] (9) and [DyNa(C(3)H(7)CO(2))(4)] (10). Single crystal structure analyses revealed that all compounds have a repeating unit containing one Ln(3+), one Na(+) and four monocarboxylate ligands (RCO(2)(-)) (R = -CH(3), -C(3)H(7), -C(6)H(5)). Compounds 6-8 and 10 possess helical polymeric structures which are extended in three dimensions forming chiral srs networks whilst compound 9 constitutes a two dimensional honeycomb network, illustrating that variation in the alkyl group of the monocarboxylate can result in versatile and variable polymeric networks.

Using glycerol (H₃gly) as a primary ligand, the decanuclear aggregate [Mn(II)₂Mn(III)₂Dy₆(μ₃-OH)₂(Hgly)₄(H₂gly)₂-(PhCO₂)₁₆(H₂O)₂]·10CH₃CN (1) has been synthesised; it has a structure built up from two Mn₂Dy₂ heterocubane units linked through a central Dy₂(μ-benzoate)₄ paddle-wheel dimer and shows slow relaxation of its magnetisation.

We present the surprising result that the combination of the monotopic benzoate ligand with lanthanide ions leads to a 3D network which also possesses the chiral srs-topology.
