The study objective was to assess the feasibility of the Patient Benefit Assessment Scale (P-BAS), a digital tool designed to enable older outpatients (≥70 years) to elucidate at home their individual goals regarding their current medical issue. Several digital tools are developed to assist older people in identifying their goals, thereby facilitating the process of shared decision making. However, studies on the feasibility of these digital tools, especially in older patients, are limited.

If the ulceration is progressive despite adequate antibiotic therapy and tissue cultures are negative, pyoderma gangrenosum should be considered as the diagnosis. This rare infection mimicking skin condition can develop and worsen due to surgery.

Methods: In total, 17 children (21 hips) were included from six hospitals in the Netherlands between 2003 and 2019. The primary outcome, hip instability, was assessed with the Reimers' migration index on preoperative and postoperative plain anteroposterior pelvic radiographs.
Background: Recovery trajectories differ between individual patients and it is hypothesizes that they can be used to predict if an individual patient is likely to recover earlier or later. Primary aim of this study was to determine if it is possible to identify recovery trajectories for physical functioning and pain during the first six weeks in patients after TKA. Secondary aim was to explore the association of these trajectories with one-year outcomes.

Methods: Embase and MEDLINE were searched for relevant studies. A study was considered for inclusion if the study aimed to identify preoperative prognostic factors for pain, physical function, and/or quality of life after a follow-up period of at least 1 year; included at least 200 adults suffering from osteoarthritis and undergoing TKA; and analyzed data using multivariable modeling.
Background: There is consistent evidence that supervised programs are not superior to home-based programs after total knee arthroplasty (TKA), especially in patients without complications. Home-based exercise programs are effective, but we hypothesize that their effectiveness can be improved by increasing the adherence to physical therapy advice to reach an adequate exercise level during the program and thereafter. Our hypothesis is that an activity coaching system (accelerometer-based activity sensor), alongside a home-based exercise program, will increase adherence to exercises and the activity level, thereby improving physical functioning and recovery.

However large defects such as long bone fractures of the lower limbs cannot be restored without intervention and often lead to nonunion. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to assess the pool and biological functions of human mesenchymal stromal cells (hMSCs) isolated from different bone marrow locations of the lower limbs and to identify novel strategies to prime the cells prior to their use in bone fracture healing.

We determined the proportion of THAs used in the Netherlands that consist of components from different manufacturers, and compared the revision rates of these mixed THAs with those of non-mixed THAs. Patients and methods - Data on primary and revision hip arthroplasty are recorded in the LROI, the nationwide population-based arthroplasty register in the Netherlands.

The underlying aetiology of this condition involves abnormal loading of the navicular bone combined with delayed ossification. Müller-Weiss disease is progressive and ultimately results in deformation and fragmentation of the navicular bone with plantar-flexed hindfoot varus.

Methods: A retrospective study of 30 idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis patients involving 44 obstructed urinary units who underwent urinary drainage from January 2002 through April 2010 was carried out. Data of all diagnostic procedures, blood and urine cultures, and hospital admissions were collected and analyzed.
Greater trochanteric pain syndrome (GTPS) is associated with excessive tension between the iliotibial band (ITB) and the greater trochanter. Several endoscopic procedures have been reported, but in most cases the endoscopic approach only consists of a bursectomy. The ITB and fascia lata act as a lateral tension band to resist tensile strains on the concave aspect of the femur and are often implicated as the source of GTPS.

Congenital undescended testis (UDT) is a common congenital anomaly among males. Since ectopic position of the testis is considered a risk factor for the development of testicular cancer and infertility, early diagnosis and treatment are essential. Careful physical examination after birth should indicate those patients with UDT who must be followed up for possible orchiopexy at an early age.

We studied knowledge transfer for the determination of the suitability of stroke patients for a specialist surgical procedure (split anterior tibial tendon transfer). Gait analysis data from patients at a general hospital were discussed with an expert in another country using personal computers, an ISDN connection (128 kbit/s) and TCP/IP-based communication tools. The key issue was whether the staff in the general hospital became better able to determine suitability for surgery.

The linear (BzlGly5,Thr6-BK, BzlGly8,Thr6-BK and BzlGly(5,8),Thr6-BK) and the cyclic (cyclo BzlGly5,Thr6-BK, cyclo BzlGly8,Thr6-BK and cyclo BzlGly(5,8),Thr6-BK) peptoid-like analogues were characterized by amino acid analysis, optical rotation, analytical HPLC and MALDI-TOF mass spectroscopy. The conformational features of both the linear and cyclic derivatives were investigated by FT-IR and CD measurements.

Coronary flow rate was increased at relatively low doses of diazepam and decreased at higher doses. Clonazepam induced a dose-dependent increase, and zolpidem a decrease of coronary flow rate.

The influence of the Ca(2+)-entry blocking drug, flunarizine, and the adenosine receptor blocking drug, theophylline on these inotropic responses was studied. Flunarizine in concentrations of 10(-9)-10(-6) M antagonized the positive inotropic response to diazepam significantly; the negative inotropic response was reduced as well.

The inotropic responses of four benzodiazepines (diazepam, midazolam and the more recently developed adinazolam and alprazolam) have been studied in a Langendorff heart preparation of the rat. Added to the perfusate in increasing concentrations (2 x 10(-5) to 6 x 10(-4) M), diazepam induced a concentration-dependent biphasic effect on the contractile force (n = 12), and, in low concentrations (2 x 10(-5) to 1 x 10(-4) M), a significant enhancement which diminished after concentrations higher than 1 x 10(-4) M were applied. The increase in contractile force was preceded by a transient short-lasting concentration-dependent inhibition.

In 523 consecutive patients with inversion injuries of ankle and foot, X-ray examination revealed 52 fractures. The majority of these fractures could be treated symptomatically. On the basis of clinical examination as the diagnostic tool for these ankle injuries, the need for radiological assessment was decided.

In 23 patients the result was excellent, without secondary dislocation during healing. We therefore conclude that this fracture type can be treated functionally.

In 28 fractures (10 per cent) there was also a rupture of the deltoid ligament. These patients were all operated upon, without exploring the medial side of the ankle joint.
