Heterostructures of magnetite (FeO) nanoparticles and reduced graphene oxide (RGO) sheets are very common composite materials for different applications such as catalysis, energy storage, and biomedicine. Developing methods for the facile control of the size and shape of both freestanding FeO nanoparticles and those anchored onto RGO sheets is in demand. Herein, we report on the rapid and facile microwave synthesis (MWS) of FeO nanoparticles and FeO/RGO with various sizes and shapes using the oleylamine (OAm)/oleic acid (OAc) ligand pair.

Isolated Inguinal Lymph Node Metastasis from Colon Cancer: A Case Report.

Lymphatic spread of colon cancer usually occurs via mesenteric vessels (superior and inferior mesenteric vessels), but inguinal lymph node (LN) metastasis from colon cancer is extremely rare with only few reported cases in the literature. A case of a 35-year-old female patient with a history of sigmoid cancer underwent sigmoidectomy and left salpingo-oopherectomy in 2016 and received adjuvant chemotherapy then presented in 2023 with metastatic left inguinal LNs and underwent left inguinal LN dissection. We reported a rare case of isolated metachronous inguinal lymph node metastasis from colon cancer with a round ligament route of spread as the hypothesized mechanism.

The current study aims to validate results from a pilot study that demonstrated an inverse association between urine tyrosine and tryptophan levels and the severity of PCa. This study comprised a cohort of 97 patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia, 93 patients diagnosed with localized PCa, 75 patients diagnosed with locally advanced PCa, and 68 patients diagnosed with metastatic PCa.

While modern ICDs rarely deliver ineffective shocks in primary prevention, the surge in managing severe heart failure patients has led to an increased number of patients with high defibrillation thresholds (DFTs).

This study aimed to analyze the associations of gustatory dysfunction as measured by validated taste strips with demographics and co-morbidities. This cross-sectional study retrospectively analyzed records of patients who attended the Orofacial Chemosensory Center of Hadassah Medical Center between 2017 and 2020. Taste strips were used as a validated method to determine taste dysfunction.

Natural killer cell activity in metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer patients treated with enzalutamide.

Metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) is still the lethal stage for the whole spectrum of prostate cancer disease. Even though different treatment options have been introduced in the last decade with a significant survival improvement for this population, a lack of more reliable prognostic and predictive markers is still one of the main clinical challenges in management of mCRPC. The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between Natural Killer cell activity (NKA) and both treatment effect and outcomes in patients with mCRPC treated with enzalutamide.

Patient-reported lower limb edema after primary radiotherapy for prostate cancer.

Background: Secondary lymphedema is a known side effect to radiotherapy (RT), but limited information regarding prevalence and risk factors for lower limb edema (LLE) after curative radiotherapy in patients with prostate cancer (PCa) is available. This study provides a descriptive analysis of patient-reported LLE with analysis of risk factors in a cohort of patients with PCa treated with curative RT.

Material And Methods: A total of 302 patients with PCa with prospective registration of patient-reported LLE (EORTC QLQ-PR25 (Question 46)) were included.

With almost 700 000 estimated cases each year in the United States and Europe, Lyme borreliosis (LB), also called Lyme disease, is the most common tick-borne illness in the world. Transmitted by ticks of the genus Ixodes and caused by bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato, LB occurs with various symptoms, such as erythema migrans, which is characteristic, whereas others involve blurred clinical features such as fatigue, headaches, arthralgia, and myalgia. The diagnosis of Lyme borreliosis, based on a standard two-tiered serology, is the subject of many debates and controversies, since it relies on an indirect approach which suffers from a low sensitivity depending on the stage of the disease.
