Different viruses are abundant in aquatic ecosystems. There has been limited research on the viral communities in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. Yellow catfish (), an important economic fish that is widely distributed in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, was selected as the research object.

Poyang Lake is the largest freshwater lake in China and plays a significant ecological role. Deep-learning-based video surveillance can effectively monitor bird species on the lake, contributing to the local biodiversity preservation. To address the challenges of multi-scale object detection against complex backgrounds, such as a high density and severe occlusion, we propose a new model known as the YOLOv8-bird model.

Article Synopsis
  • Non-melanoma skin cancers (NMSCs) are the most common type of cancer in the U.S., and image-guided superficial radiation therapy (IGSRT) effectively treats them, but the influence of patient comorbidities and socioeconomic status (SES) on treatment outcomes has been under-researched.
  • A large retrospective study analyzed nearly 20,000 NMSC lesions to determine how SES and comorbidity levels (using ADI and CCI metrics) affected recurrence rates after IGSRT, finding minimal differences in outcomes for both factors at 2, 4, and 6 years.
  • Results showed that neither SES nor comorbidity burden significantly impacted recurrence rates, suggesting that I

Background: Exposure to galactic cosmic radiation (GCR) is a breast cancer risk factor for female astronauts on deep-space missions. However, the specific signaling mechanisms driving GCR-induced breast cancer have not yet been determined.

Methods: This study aimed to investigate the role of the estrogen-induced ERα-ERRα-SPP1 signaling axis in relation to mammary tumorigenesis in female mice exposed to simulated GCR (GCRsim) at 100-110 days post-exposure.

CTCF plays a vital role in shaping chromatin structure and regulating gene expression. Clinical studies have associated CTCF mutations with congenital developmental abnormalities, including congenital cardiomyopathy. In this study, we investigated the impact of the homozygous CTCF-R567W (Ctcf) mutation on cardiac tissue morphogenesis during mouse embryonic development.

Electronic-rich functional groups and flexible segments have long been perceived to be the decisive factors influencing lithium-ion transfer in polymer electrolytes, while crystallinity is regarded as the great scourge. Actually, the research on the influence of crystalline phase and crystalline plane is still in scarcity. Herein, taking poly(vinylidene fluoride)-hexafluoropropylene (PVDF-HFP) as an example, new (111/201) crystal planes (belonged to β-phase) are regulated by dissolving process and clarified by Synchrotron radiation X-ray diffraction and X-ray diffraction.

Postoperative pain significantly affects many surgical patients. While opioids are crucial for pain management, they come with unwanted side effects. Alternatives like nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonists, and regional anesthesia techniques such as nerve blocks are utilized, but these also have limitations.

The behavior of an organism is influenced by the complex interplay between its brain, body and environment. Existing data-driven models focus on either the brain or the body-environment. Here we present BAAIWorm, an integrative data-driven model of Caenorhabditis elegans, which consists of two submodels: the brain model and the body-environment model.

Wearable electrocardiogram (ECG) devices are the mainstream technology in the diagnosis of various cardiovascular diseases, in which soft, flexible, permeable electrodes are the key link in human-machine interface to capture bioelectrical signals. Herein, we propose a self-template strategy to fabricate silver-coated fiber/silicone (AgCF-S) electrodes. With a simple dissolving-curing-redissolving process, the polyvinyl acetate shell around the AgCF core is in-situ removed to form a three-dimensional (3D) multi-channel structure.

Acute liver failure (ALF) is a hepatology emergency with rapid hepatic destruction, multiple organ failures, and high mortality. Despite decades of research, established ALF has minimal therapeutic options. Here, we report that the small bioactive compound SCM-198 increases the survival of male ALF mice to 100%, even administered 24 hours after ALF establishment.

Objective: Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is a rare abnormality with highly heterogeneous genetic causes. This study investigated chromosomal and monogenic abnormalities in fetal CDH patients and evaluated the efficacy of chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA) and whole-exome sequencing (WES) for genetic diagnosis. The clinical features of the patients were also evaluated.

Organic phosphorescence or thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) scintillators, while effective in utilizing triplet excitons, are sensitive to temperature changes, which can impact radioluminescence performance. In this study, we have developed a type of temperature-adaptive organic scintillator with phosphorescence and TADF dual emission. These scintillators can automatically switch modes with temperature changes, enabling efficient radioluminescence from 77 to 400 K.

Developing smart materials with tunable high-temperature afterglow (HTA) luminescence remains a formidable challenge. This study presents a metal-free doping system using boric acid as matrix and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons as dopants. This composition achieves dynamically tunable afterglow combining a bright blue HTA lasting for over ten seconds even at 150°C and an ultra-long yellow room-temperature phosphorescence below 110°C.

Objectives: To observe the effect of eye-acupuncture on the antioxidant function axis:System xc(-)-glutathione-glutathione peroxidase 4 (System xc[-]-GSH-GPX4) in the cortical tissue of ischemic penumbra of acute cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury (CIRI) rats, so as to explore its underlying mechanism in improvement of CIRI by ameliorating the ferroptosis of neurons via antioxidant function axis.

Methods: Male SD rats were randomly divided into sham operation, model, eye-acupuncture and GPX4-inhibitor groups, with 15 rats in each group. The CIRI model was replicated by occlusion of the middle cerebral artery and reperfusion for 24 h.

Sjogren's disease (SjD) in children is a rare chronic autoimmune disease not fully recognized due to clinical manifestations different from adults. As such, new objective indicators are needed to supplement existing markers and assist in diagnosis. This review summarizes pathogenesis of SjD in children, current diagnostic criteria and research progress in laboratory diagnosis including serologic testing, saliva and tear analysis, histopathological examination as well as emerging markers of interest.

Objectives: To establish a quantitative method for objectively assessing 3-dimensional (3D) mandibular trajectories and comparing clinical evaluations with computational analyses.

Methods: In total, 184 volunteers were recruited and grouped into control (n = 121) and temporomandibular disorder (TMD) groups (n = 63) according to the dual-axis DC/TMD checklist. 3D trajectories were generated by integrating mandibular motion and cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) records.

The hydrodeoxygenation of amide to amine is one of the most important amine synthetic approaches in chemical engineering. However, low amide reactivity and poor amine selectivity remain big challenges for catalytic hydrodeoxygenation of amides. Here, Ru-VO/TiO catalysts with different V/Ru atomic ratios were prepared with the sequential impregnation method.
