Dry eye disease (DED) is a multifactorial ocular disease, the core mechanism of which is the tear film instability caused by ocular oxidative stress damage and inflammation. Although various pharmaceutical agents are available for DED treatment, their effectiveness is often limited by the eyes' unique biological barriers, and the long-term use of steroid hormones can lead to several adverse effects. This study reported a nano-supramolecular delivery system consisting of a polycyclodextrin (PCD), hyaluronic acid (HA) and the natural compound β-carotene (BC) for the DED treatment.

Resistivity measurements are widely exploited to uncover electronic excitations and phase transitions in metallic solids. While single crystals are preferably studied to explore crystalline anisotropies, these usually cancel out in polycrystalline materials. Here we show that in polycrystalline MnZnGeN with non-collinear antiferromagnetic order, changes in the diagonal and, rather unexpected, off-diagonal components of the resistivity tensor occur at low temperatures indicating subtle transitions between magnetic phases of different symmetry.

The supercritical CO enhanced coalbed methane (ScCO-ECBM) technology is still in the development stage, and many simulation experiments and theoretical studies related to ScCO-ECBM are being improved. Previous research works have conducted many studies on the competitive adsorption of CO and CH in coal, but there is less research on the competitive adsorption of ScCO and CH and its impact on methane extraction characteristics. In this study, a permeability model considering the competitive effects of effective stress and adsorption swelling on permeability was established.

Artificial solid-state nanochannels have aroused intense interests in biosensors and bioelectronics because of their special architectures. Herein, we pioneered an ingenious approach of target-triggered cascade signal amplification in porous anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) nanochannels for ultrasensitive photoelectrochemical (PEC) DNA bioanalysis. In the design, AAO nanochannels were modified initially with capture DNA (cDNA) and then incorporated with a photoelectrode, yielding the desired architecture of highly ordered nanoarrays on top of the signal transducer.

Peroxidase (POD)-like nanozymes have been found to act as nanoreactors for the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) to resolve drug resistance in the tumor microenvironment (TME). Amplifying cellular oxidative stress is considered to be a drug-free strategy to efficiently induce apoptosis in tumor cells. However, the limited content of intracellular hydrogen peroxide (HO) extremely restricts the performance of POD-like nanozymes to amplify cellular oxidative stress.

The deconfined quantum critical point (DQCP) represents a paradigm shift in quantum matter studies, presenting a "beyond Landau" scenario for order-order transitions. Its experimental realization, however, has remained elusive. Using high-pressure B nuclear magnetic resonance measurements on the quantum magnet SrCu(BO), we here demonstrate a magnetic field-induced plaquette singlet to antiferromagnetic transition above 1.

Cerium carbonate crystal morphology is predicted using density functional theory (DFT) simulations in this paper. In the nucleation phase, the ketone group in polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) will preferentially bind to Ce3+ to form complexes and provide heterogeneous nucleation sites for the system, prompting the nucleation of cerium carbonate crystals. In the growth stage, due to the adsorption of PVP, the probability of (120) crystal plane appearing in the equilibrium state is the greatest, resulting in the formation of hexagonal flake cerium carbonate crystals with (120) crystal plane as the oblique edge.

To minimize unwanted reactions with high concentrations of reduced glutathione (GSH) in the tumor microenvironment (TME) during chemodynamic therapy (CDT), a simple and effective strategy was developed to fabricate a TME stimuli-responsive theranostic nanomedicine (Fe-CD) for fluorescence imaging-guided GSH depletion and cancer therapy by combining fluorescent imaging carbon dots (CD) and Fe(III). Introducing Fe(III) into Fe-CD not only quenched the fluorescence of CD while reacting with and consuming intracellular GSH for fluorescence imaging of the depletion of GSH but also provided a source of metal ions to generate more abundant hydroxyl radicals (•OH) with hydrogen peroxide (HO) through the Fenton reaction to improve CDT. Fe-CD showed promising •OH generation under HO to effectively degrade methylene blue in vitro and obviously activate the green fluorescence of the reactive oxygen species (ROS) probe in cells.
