[Disorders of sexual function in men after strokes].

The author examined 74 men in the rehabilitation stage after a cerebrovascular attack. A cerebrovascular attack can influence sexual function in younger and middle-aged men. Transient sexual complaints, in particular in younger patients after a cerebrovascular attack were favourably influenced by psychotherapy (standardized talk with the patient, possibly his wife).

Structure of life frustrations in subjects prone to ischemic heart disease.

Men, exhibiting risk factors of ischaemic heart disease (hypertension, family history, smoking, diabetes, retinal angiopathy, hypercholesterolaemia) reported to be less frustrated practically in all spheres of life than non-risk men. In women the overall difference was less conspicuous but the structure of frustrations somewhat differed. The IHD-prone women were more frustrated in the sphere of material needs and of assessment of their own health, which suggests that in them a certain feeling of illness is yet developing.

[On the influence of ventricular heart rhythm disturbances by diphenylhydantoin in the course of ergometric burden tests (author's transl)].

Ecg-observations and ergometric burdening of suitable heights of performances up to a limit frequency of the corresponding age, 140 l/min-1, are suited to judge and to release ventricular, therapy-requiring disturbances of rhythm. The number of these arrhythms is increasing under ergometric burden. Diphenylhydantoin lessens under continued 3-weeks therapy with an average daily dose from 100 mg to 400 mg the number of arrhythms considerably--as well in rest as also under ergometric burdening--or stops them at all.

[Incidence and peculiar changes in the electrocardiogram of patients after cerebrovascular insults.--Epidemiological study of 70--105-year-old people (author's transl)].

An epidemicological study of 70 to 105-year-old people revealed a frequency of cerebrovascular insults from 1,8% of living and of 23,9 respectively 34,4% of deceased men or women. As typical changes of the electrocardiogram in recent insults are to be found prolongations of the QT-interval, large and often terminal negative T-waves as well as large and high, but over the left precordium often negative U-waves.

Relative genealogic incidence of certain "civilization diseases" in a geriatric population versus pregeriatric groups.

In a prevalence epidemiologic study conducted in a characteristic submontane area in North Bohemia, the genealogic incidence of myocardial infarction, sudden brain vascular episodes, and malignant tumors was studied in a representative sample of persons aged 70 to 105 years. The incidence was then compared with that in two other samples: 1) men under age 40 with a history of transmural myocardial infarction, and 2) both men and women aged 40--60 who had a stroke. The statistical evaluation was performed according to accepted international criteria (WHO).
