New hydroxy- and anilinoindanone derivatives and were synthesized starting from 3-hydroxybenzo[]isoindolinone via the addition of alkyllithium (-BuLi, -BuLi, MeLi or -PrLi) to the carbonyl group, followed by lactam ring opening and, finally, an intramolecular cyclization leading to target compounds. The same starting material was used for the preparation of the new benzo[]phthalazinone derivatives through multi-step reactions. The target derivative was obtained from the corresponding bromolactam by the Buchwald-Hartwig amination.

Amino- and polyaminophthalazinones were synthesized by the palladium-catalyzed amination (alkyl- and arylamines, polyamines) of 4-bromophthalazinones in good yields. The coordinating properties of selected aminophthalazinones towards Cu(II) ions were investigated and the participation of the nitrogen atoms in the complexation of the metal ion was shown. A biological screening of the potential cytotoxicity of selected synthesized compounds on HT-29 and PC-3 cell lines, as well as on the L-929 cell line, proved that some amino derivatives of phthalazinone show interesting anticancer activities.

The aim of this work was to synthesize selected thiophene-derived aminophosphonic systems and evaluate the phytotoxicity of newly obtained products according to the OECD 208 Guideline. Seven new thiophene-derived N-substituted dimethyl aminomethylphosphonic acid esters 2a-h were synthesized by the addition of an appropriate phosphite to azomethine bond of starting Schiff bases 1a-h, and NMR spectroscopic properties of aminophosphonates were investigated. These eight compounds were analyzed in regard to their phytotoxicity towards two plants, radish (Raphanus sativus) and oat (Avena sativa).

New N-(dimethylamino)ethyl derivatives of phthalazinones and pyridopyridazinones 7, 9 were synthesized and assayed as potential analgesic agents in the hot-plate, tail-flick, and writhing tests. Pharmacological assay demonstrated that eight (in ten) of the newly synthesized compounds showed antinociceptive activity. Especially, 2-[2-(dimethylamino)ethyl]-4-phenyl-2H-phthalazin-1-one 7a showed remarkably higher antinociceptive activity in all tests.
