Background: Gaucher disease (GD) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder caused by mutations in the GBA1 gene that lead to a deficiency in the glucocerebrosidase gene. This deficiency results in the accumulation of glucocerebrosides in macrophages, primarily affecting the liver, spleen, and bone marrow. Focusing on the Mexican population, this study aims to review GD's epidemiology, clinical manifestations, and treatment options to enhance early diagnosis and optimize treatment outcomes.

Introduction: Pharmacological cognitive enhancement (PCE) among healthy individuals with off-label use of medications raises ethical and safety concerns in academia. Among the few studies that have examined this phenomenon in medical students, the desire to improve performance and cope with high levels of stress are the most common associated factors implicated. Our main objective was to update current literature by exploring a novel factor by investigating the association between PCE use and student learning approaches among a cohort of international medical students.

Fluoroquinolone Resistance in Causing Community-Acquired Urinary Tract Infections: A Systematic Review.

Community-acquired urinary tract infections account for 15% of all outpatient use of antibiotics, and women are primarily affected; the major causative microorganism is uropathogenic (). Treatment is indicated for cystitis and pyelonephritis and includes B-lactams (amoxicillin-clavulanic acid or third-generation cephalosporins), fluoroquinolones (ciprofloxacin or levofloxacin), nitrofurantoin, fosfomycin, and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole. Resistance to antibiotic treatment is of concern; several mechanisms have been associated with the acquisition of genes that confer antimicrobial resistance to fluoroquinolones, which are often associated with other patterns of resistance, especially in extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) producers.

Significant Clinical Manifestations in Ballantyne Syndrome, after a Case Report and Literature Review: Recognizing Preeclampsia as a Differential Diagnosis.

Ballantyne syndrome (BS) also called mirror syndrome is defined by the presence of a clinical triad that includes fetal hydrops and placental and maternal edema. Here we present a clinical case of a 34-year-old woman with a 29 weeks' pregnancy, who developed BS and fetal loss probably due to failure in prompt recognition of a rapidly growing sacrococcygeal teratoma (SCT). Due to similarities in clinical presentation with preeclampsia and the importance in early identification of the source for BS, we underwent a literature review in order to identify significant signs and symptoms, as well as sonographic changes, in order to help clinicians to make this prompt recognition, identification of the cause, and early management of BS, which will have an important impact in maternal and fetal survival.

An update on peripheral ossifying fibroma: case report and literature review.

The purpose of the present article was to present a clinical case of an 11-year-old girl with peripheral ossifying fibroma (POF).
