1. The behavioural and anticonvulsant effects of 10 1,4-benzodiazepine derivatives were studied after intraperitoneal administration in DBA/2 mice, a strain genetically susceptible to sound-induced seizures. 2.

Each early-talker is compared to controls in the same language stage; 10 in Early State I (mean age 1;7) and 10 in Stage II (mean age 2;3). Data are explored to determine if the dissociation is best characterized as one between grammar and semantics, or a difference in cognitive style.

No difference was found in SEMh recordings for the right versus the left eye or for gaze direction. In contrast, SEMv recordings of upgaze vs.

All patients were put on monotherapy with sodium valproate, and their long-term course was excellent with remission of absences and normalization of EEG recordings.

A 17-year-old girl had experienced two generalized tonic-clonic seizures (GTCS) while watching television. The only EEG abnormality was a photoparoxysmal response (PPR), which was sometimes accompanied by loss of postural tone in both arms.

BAEPs were recorded from the basal surface of the temporal lobe by subdural electrodes chronically implanted in 6 patients who were evaluated for surgical management of intractable partial seizures. Near-field recordings were obtained by recording between the subdural electrode closest and most distant to the brain-stem. Far-field recordings were obtained by recording between the subdural electrodes and an indifferent electrode over the spinal process of the seventh cervical vertebrae.

We hypothesized that such a functional preservation is not confined to the visual system. In a 74-year-old woman suffering from CJD, three consecutive recording sessions of somatosensory cortical evoked potentials (SEPs) by right median nerve stimulation were carried out: (a) basal condition, without any pharmacologic treatment; (b) 1 min after i.

A 80-year-old man with cobalamin deficiency and no history of epilepsy developed a partial complex epileptic confusional status (ECS) unresponsive to acute i.v. diazepam.

In 25 patients with moderate PD, we measured LDR on motor function after short periods of treatment with levodopa (subacute tests). Each subacute test lasted 15 days and consisted of the oral administration of levodopa at various interdose intervals (IDIs) of 48, 24, 12, 8, 6, and 5 hours.

We retrospectively reviewed clinical and neurophysiological data of 6 epileptic patients who developed negative myoclonus and stupor a few days after introduction of valproate (VPA). Prompt remission of clinical signs and symptoms followed valproate withdrawal. We attempted to elucidate the pathophysiological mechanism of VPA-induced stupor and provide further polygraphic and backaveraging EEG documentation of negative myoclonus.

We investigated RT and MT in 22 PD patients at baseline conditions and following acute oral trials of levodopa and biperiden, an anticholinergic drug. At baseline conditions, RT and MT of PD patients were abnormally delayed compared with those of 16 normal control subjects.

To reduce the cumulative amount of levodopa intake by patients with mild PD, we investigated the clinical efficacy of short periods of treatment with levodopa scheduled at different daily dosages and administered in a conventional design (ie, three times a day) compared with a standard oral dose of the drug administered once every 3 days. The latter dose regimen, designated "oral pulse levodopa therapy" (OPLT), allowed us to obtain a clinical response comparable to that obtained by conventional treatments that involve cumulative daily levodopa dosages up to seven times higher than OPLT.

F-wave main characteristics were investigated following stimulation of 8 different nerves (facial, axillary, radial, median, ulnar, femoral, deep peroneal, posterior tibial) in a population of normal healthy subjects. Additional studies compared different stimulation and recording techniques (stimulus intensity, stimulus duration, number of consecutive stimuli, facilitating maneuvers, type of recording electrodes). F-wave persistency varied markedly among the different nerves.

The involuntary movements disappeared a few days after withdrawal of CBZ and reappeared with CBZ reintroduction. Plasma CBZ levels were always within the therapeutic range.

Control of surface limb temperature in routine EMG does not completely obviate the variations induced by the body temperature cycle. Diurnal fluctuations should be taken into account when performing serial CV determinations in the same individual.

We report here the clinical and electromyographic findings in two patients with local panatrophy and emphasize its benign course and its similarity to scleroderma circumscripta.
