The porosity and diffusion length of concrete have been determined by measuring the time-dependent diffusion of radon through a thin slab of the material. One surface of the slab is exposed to a large, fixed radon concentration beginning at t = 0. The radon that diffuses out of a portion of the opposite surface is collected during several contiguous time intervals.
