Objective: To systematically review clinical and patient-reported outcomes after radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for the treatment of uterine fibroids.
Data Sources: We searched Medline, EMBASE, Cochrane Registry of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) on September 8, 2023, and requested additional data from industry sources. We included published, peer-reviewed studies of patient-centered outcomes of RFA when used for symptomatic fibroids.
Exciton-polaritons, hybrid light-matter excitations arising from the strong coupling between excitons in semiconductors and photons in photonic nanostructures, are crucial for exploring the physics of quantum fluids of light and developing all-optical devices. Achieving room temperature propagation of polaritons with a large excitonic fraction is challenging but vital, e.g.

Loss of in mice results in sinus pauses and bradycardia and morpholino knockdown of zebrafish results in atrioventricular (AV) block. We identified bi-allelic variants in in 4 families that presented with a phenotypic spectrum consisting of sinus node dysfunction, AV conduction defects and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

Two isoforms, TnI-fast () and TnI-slow (), are predominantly expressed in fast- and slow-twitch myofibers, respectively. variants are a rare cause of arthrogryposis, whereas variants have not been conclusively established to cause skeletal myopathy.

The spectrum of clinical phenotype can be highly variable, going from very mild to severe presentations. The course also varies broadly resulting in a fatal outcome in the most severe cases but can either be benign or lead to an amelioration even in severe presentations.

We present the clinical, molecular, histopathological, and muscle magnetic resonance findings of a novel 63-years-old LGMDR8 patient of Italian origins, who went undiagnosed for 24 years. Clinical exome sequencing identified two missense variants, c.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLimb girdle muscular dystrophies (LGMDs) are a group of genetically inherited neuromuscular diseases with a very variable clinical presentation and overlapping traits. Over the last few years there has been an increasing interest in the use of non-invasive circulating biomarkers to monitor disease progression and to evaluate the efficacy of therapeutic approaches. Our aim was to identify the miRNA signature with potential value for LGMD patient screening and stratification.

Causative mutations are mainly identified in structural COX subunits or in proteins involved in the maturation and assembly of the COX holocomplex. We describe an Italian familial case of mitochondrial myopathy due to a variant in the COX assembly factor 8 gene ().

Methods: Retrospective review of consecutive cases treated at our Breast Unit between 2003 and 2013. Patients were divided into 3 subgroups based on p53 IHC expression: null (0%), low (0.
We study the role of topological singularities like Bound States in a Continuum (BICs) or Circularly Polarized States (CPSs) in determining ellipticity of the far-field polarization in dielectric metasurfaces. Using finite-difference time-domain as well as rigorous coupled-wave analysis simulations, we determine the behavior of the Stokes parameter S in the whole k space above the light cone, with special regard to the region close to the singularities. Moreover, we clarify the relation between the topological singularities and the circular dichroism in reflectivity.

The aim of this study is to describe a molecular defect in the COX assembly factor gene COX18 as the likely cause of a neonatal form of mitochondrial encephalo-cardio-myopathy and axonal sensory neuropathy. The proband is a 19-months old female displaying hypertrophic cardiomyopathy at birth and myopathy with axonal sensory neuropathy and failure to thrive developing in the first months of life.

The majority of prognostic and predictive GB biomarkers are currently developed using tumour samples obtained through surgical interventions. However, the selection criteria adopted by different neurosurgeons to determine which cases are suitable for surgery make operated patients not representative of all GB cases.

It localizes at the cell surface, creating a microfilamentous network that links the cytoskeleton to the extracellular matrix. The heterotrimer consists of three chains encoded by , and genes.

We present the case of a man affected with an oligosymptomatic, genetically determined MELAS syndrome, whose clinical picture dramatically and irreversibly worsened following a mild head injury. We hypothesize that the CNS metabolic stress induced by the brain injury activated an irreversible cascade of events leading to progressive neurodegeneration because damaged mitochondria were unable to restore the balance between energy requirements and availability.

Derangement of this pathway might also influence the homeostasis of mitochondrial membranes. Autosomal recessive CHKB mutations cause a rare form of congenital muscular dystrophy known as megaconial congenital muscular dystrophy (MCMD).
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLimb-girdle muscular dystrophies (LGMD) are clinically and genetically heterogenous presentations displaying predominantly proximal muscle weakness due to the loss of skeletal muscle fibers. Beta-sarcoglycanopathy (LGMDR4) results from biallelic molecular defects in SGCB and features pediatric onset with limb-girdle involvement, often complicated by respiratory and heart dysfunction. Here we describe a patient who presented at the age of 12 years reporting high creatine kinase levels and onset of cramps after strenuous exercise.

This strategy has been hampered by insufficient delivery of PMO to cardiac and skeletal muscle. To overcome these limitations, we developed the FORCETM platform consisting of an antigen-binding fragment, which binds the transferrin receptor 1, conjugated to an oligonucleotide.

Since 2011 the Emilia Romagna Regional Health Agency has recommended Newborn Hearing Screening for all babies at its birth points and for newborns moving to the region. The aims of this study are to analyze the results of this regional-based Newborn Hearing Screening program and to discuss the impact of the legislative endorsement on the organization.
