Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) have a central role in follicle growth, maturation and oestrus, but no clear pathway in the seasonal oestrus of yak (Bos grunniens) has been found. To better understand the role of FSH and LH in seasonal oestrus in the yak, six yaks were slaughtered while in oestrus, and the pineal gland, hypothalamus, pituitary gland, and gonads were collected. Using real-time PCR and immunohistochemical assays, we determined the mRNA and protein expression of the FSH and LH receptors (FSHR and LHR) in these organs.

Objective: Progressive cerebral infarctions increase mortality and functional disability through mechanisms which have yet to be completely understood. The goal of this study was to explore the dynamic changes of serum C-reactive protein (CRP), fibrinogen (FIB) and D-dimer (D-D) in order to better characterize progressive cerebral infarction.

Methods: The amount of serum CRP, FIB and D-D was measured in 82 patients with progressive cerebral infarction by taking samples from the internal carotid artery (progressive group), and in 186 patients with non-progressive cerebral infarction (non-progressive group) by using an automatic biochemical analyzer during the next day (day 1), day 3, day 7, and day 14 after being admitted to hospital.

The generation of functional neural progenitor cells (NPCs) holds great promise for both research and clinical applications in neurodegenerative diseases. Traditionally, NPCs are derived from embryonic stem cells (ESCs) and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), or NPCs can be directly converted from somatic cells by sets of transcription factors or by a combination of chemical cocktails and/or hypoxia. However, the ethical issues of ESCs, the risk of tumorigenesis from iPSCs and transgenic integration from exogenous genes as well as complicated manipulation and time-consuming of chemical induced NPCs (ciNPCs) limit the applications of these strategies.

This manuscript reports the consensus statements regarding recurrent ovarian cancer (ROC), reached at the fifth Ovarian Cancer Consensus Conference (OCCC), which was held in Tokyo, Japan, in November 2015. Three important questions were identified: (i) What are the subgroups for clinical trials in ROC? The historical definition of using platinum-free interval (PFI) to categorise patients as having platinum-sensitive/resistant disease was replaced by therapy-free interval (TFI). Antimony/porous biomass carbon nanocomposites have been prepared by a chemical reduction method and applied as anodes for sodium-ion batteries. The porous biomass carbon derived from a black fungus had a large Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area of 2233 m  g in which antimony nanoparticles were uniformly distributed in the porous carbon. The as-prepared antimony/porous biomass carbon nanocomposites exhibited a high reversible sodium storage capacity of 567 mA h g at a current density of 100 mA g , extended cycling stability, and good rate capability.

Inactivation of p53 greatly contributes to serous ovarian cancer, while the role of the wild-type p53 induced phosphatase 1 (Wip1) is quite unclear. In this study, by silencing or overexpression of Wip1, we found that Wip1 suppressed ovarian cancer cell invasion, migration, epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT), and ovarian cancer metastasis in xenograft animal models. Mechanistic studies showed that Wip1 may block ovarian cancer metastasis through inhibition of Snail and p-Akt expression because silencing or overexpression of Wip1 either upregulated or downregulated the expression of Snail and p-Akt (Ser 473), while further knockdown of Snail by shRNA or inhibition of p-Akt by a chemical compound attenuated cell invasion, migration and EMT in Wip1 silencing cells.

Human X chromosome has higher densities of microRNAs (miRNAs) compared to the average densities on autosomes. Given that numbers of X-linked miRNAs can escape from meiotic sex chromosome inactivation (MSCI) silencing, it is proposed that X-linked miRNAs may play critical roles in the process of spermatogenesis. Background: This study was to explore the expression profile of endometrial carcinoma (EC) and identify the potential molecular mechanism and therapeutic targets.

Methods: Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and differentially expressed miRNAs (DEMs) were identified in EC using mRNA and miRNA sequencing data released by the Cancer Genome Atlas database; then, gene function and pathway of DEGs were analyzed based on the Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway databases; finally, the transcription factors (TFs) latently regulating the DEGs and DEMs were predicted and a TF-miRNA-Gene network was then established to summarize the regulatory links between TFs, DEMs and DEGs.

Results: One thousand five hundred and forty two upregulated and 1,885 downregulated DEGs, 34 upregulated and 12 downregulated DEMs were identified.
