The interspinous process motion (ISM) method can provide a more accurate assessment of postoperative subaxial cervical fusion than Cobb angle method which is used more commonly in clinical practice. However, the ISM method presents the measurement results in millimeters which cannot be directly compared with the Cobb angle measurement data. We proposed a modified measurement method for cervical functional spinal unit range of motion (FSU ROM) and evaluate its repeatability and reliability in measuring the ROM of the surgical segment after cervical artificial disc replacement surgery.

Methods: A randomized controlled trial was conducted at a large-volume pancreatic centre between 1 January 2021 and 31 December 2022. Patients undergoing clean-contaminated pancreatic surgery were enrolled and randomized into an intervention arm (bathing with a 2% CHG wipe) and a control arm (routine care, soap, and water).
To elucidate the pollution characteristics and sources of heavy metals in the soil of drinking water sources in urban areas of the Yellow River Basin, the soil in the water source areas for urban drinking water in the Lanzhou section of the Yellow River was selected as the research object. The content characteristics of heavy metals, including As, Cd, Cr, Hg, and Pb, were analyzed. The pollution degree of heavy metals was quantified systematically using the geo-accumulation index, contamination factor, pollution load index, and improved Nemerow comprehensive pollution index.

Methods: Data from 242 AD spectrum subjects, including biological, neuroimaging, and general cognition, were obtained from the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative for this cross-sectional study. The study utilized a sliding-window approach to assess whole-brain dFNC, investigating group differences and associations with biological and cognitive factors.
Strain gauge plays vital roles in various fields as structural health monitoring, aerospace engineering, and civil infrastructure. However, traditional flexible strain gauge inevitably brings the pseudo-signal caused by the substrate temperature effect and determines its accuracy. Here, we present an anisotropic composite substrate designed to modify the thermal expansion performance via Micro-electro-mechanical System (MEMS) technology, which facilitates the development of strain gauges that are minimally affected by substrate temperature-induced effect.

With the continuous refinement of therapeutic measures, the survival rate of tumor patients has been improving year by year, while cardiovascular complications related to cancer therapy have become increasingly prominent. Exploring the mechanism and prevention strategy of cancer therapy-related cardiovascular toxicity (CTR-CVT) remains one of the research hotspots in the field of Cardio-Oncology in recent years. Cardiotoxicity of anticancer drugs involves heart failure, myocarditis, hypertension, arrhythmias and vascular toxicity, mechanistically related to vascular endothelial dysfunction, ferroptosis, mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress.

The differentially expressed CRGs (DE-CRGs) were filtered by the overlaps in differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between HCC patients and normal controls (NCs) in the scRNA-seq database, DE-CRGs between high- and low-CRG-activity cells, and DEGs between HCC patients and NCs in the TCGA database.
Results: Thirty-three DE-CRGs in HCC were identified.
To understand the pollution status, distribution characteristics, and pollution sources of soil heavy metals in tourist cities in northwest China, the soil content of heavy metals As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Ni, Pb, and Zn in the main areas of Dunhuang City was collected and analyzed. The soil heavy metal pollution level was quantitatively evaluated by the methods of the geo-accumulation index and improved Nemerow pollution index, and the sources of heavy metal pollution were quantitatively analyzed using cluster analysis and the positive matrix factorization (PMF) model. The contribution rate of each pollution source to ecological risk was determined by combining the PMF model and comprehensive ecological risk index.

Methods: In total, 8233 symptomatic cases at risk for CRC, as judged by outpatient physicians, were involved in this study at seven medical centers.
Two strains of Fe/Mn oxidizing bacteria tolerant to high concentrations of multiple heavy metal(loid)s and efficient decontamination for them were screened. The surface of the bio-Fe/Mn oxides produced by the oxidation of Fe(II) and Mn(II) by Pseudomonas taiwanensis (marked as P4) and Pseudomonas plecoglossicida (marked as G1) contains rich reactive oxygen functional groups, which play critical roles in the removal efficiency and immobilization of heavy metal(loid)s in co-contamination system. The isolated strains P4 and G1 can grow well in the following environments: pH 5-9, NaCl 0-4%, and temperature 20-30°C.

SCI involves excessive inflammatory responses, which are characterized by the existence of high levels of proinflammatory M1 macrophages, and neuronal mitochondrial energy deficit, exacerbating secondary damage and impeding axon regeneration. This study delves into the mechanistic intricacies of SCI, offering insights from the perspectives of neuroimmune regulation and mitochondrial function, leading to a pro-fibrotic macrophage phenotype and energy-supplying deficit.

Methods: A cross-sectional questionnaire survey of adult inpatients with IVC placements was conducted from July to September 2022 in 20 tertiary hospitals in China. One clinical staff member from each department in each hospital was assigned to participate in the survey.
Background: Currently, different guidelines recommend using different methods to determine whether deduplication is necessary when determining the detection rates of multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs). However, few studies have investigated the effect of deduplication on MDRO monitoring data. In this study, we aimed to investigate the influence of deduplication on the detection rates of MDROs in different specimens to assess its impact on infection surveillance outcomes.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFImmune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) represent a promising treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) due to their capacity for abundant lymphocyte infiltration. However, some patients with HCC respond poorly to ICI therapy due to the presence of various immunosuppressive factors in the tumor microenvironment. Our research reveals that a macrophage-coated tumor cluster (MCTC) signifies a unique spatial structural organization in HCC correlating with diminished recurrence-free survival and overall survival in a total of 572 HCC cases from 3 internal cohorts and 2 independent external validation cohorts.

In the present study, we initially demonstrate that sensory nerves can attenuate fibrogenic progression in EF animal models via the secretion of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), suggesting a new potential therapeutic target. Further studies showed that CGRP could inhibit the reprograming activation of fibroblasts through PI3K/AKT signal pathway.

Automated grading of diabetic retinopathy (DR) is an important means for assisting clinical diagnosis and preventing further retinal damage. However, imbalances and similarities between categories in the DR dataset make it highly challenging to accurately grade the severity of the condition. Furthermore, DR images encompass various lesions, and the pathological relationship information among these lesions can be easily overlooked.
