Fifteen sesquiterpenoids, including five previously undescribed monomers with oxidative rearranged skeletons (sarglabenoids A-E, 1-5) and three previously unreported lindenane [2 + 2] dimers (sarglabenoids F-H, 6-8), alongside seven related precursors (9-15), were isolated from the root of Sarcandra glabra. The structures of these compounds were elucidated using a combination of high-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry, one-dimensional and two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, the circular dichroism exciton chirality method, electronic circular dichroism, and nuclear magnetic resonance calculations integrated with DP4+ analysis. Compounds 1 and 2 feature an unique 5/5 spiro ring system, which is likely derived from a pinacol rearrangement of precursor 14.

To clarify the photosynthetic mechanism contributing to the enhancement of intercropping advantages through co-ridge intercropping of maize and peanut, we conducted a field randomized block experiment under two phosphorus levels of 0(P) and 180 kg PO·hm(P) with flat intercropping of maize and peanut (FIC) as the control. We analyzed the effects of co-ridge intercropping of maize and peanut (RIC) and groove-ridge intercropping of maize and peanut (GIC) on crop leaf area index (LAI), SPAD values, CO carboxylation ability, photosystems coordination (), and intercropping advantage of yield. The results showed that RIC significantly increased SPAD value at the silking stage of intercropping maize, and significantly improved the apparent quantum yield of photosynthesis (AQY), maximum electron transfer rate (), maximum rate of Rubisco carboxylation (), net photosynthetic rate at the CO saturation () and of intercropping maize compared with those of FIC and GIC at silking stage and milking stage, but reduced the ratio of variable fluorescence to amplitude -() and the ratio of variable fluorescence to amplitude -() of the functional leaf photosystem Ⅱ (PSⅡ) at the milking stage of maize.

A novel actinomycete strain, designated S2-4, was isolated from a mangrove soil sample, and a polyphasic approach was employed to determine its taxonomic position. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene indicated that strain S2-4 formed a unique clade next to that harboring Pseudonocardia dioxanivorans CB1190, which shared the highest sequence similarity (98.20%) with the new isolate.

We demonstrate the successful photovoltaic splitting of water microdroplets on a $y$y-cut ${{\rm LiNbO}_3}:{\rm Fe}$LiNbO:Fe substrate coated with an oil-infused hydrophobic layer. The temporal evolution of the microdroplet contact angle upon a central illumination and the distinct behaviors of two sub-droplets during a following boundary illumination reveal that both electrowetting and electroosmotic effects induced by the dipolar photovoltaic potential on the substrate contribute to the water microdroplet splitting. The reciprocal relationship between the splitting time and the illumination intensity verifies the inherent photovoltaic nature of the water microdroplet splitting.

Optically massive trapping of the moisture in the air into an adjacent surface is a potential technique in the fields of bacterial adhesion and microfluidic generation, which is quite important to the development of LN-based biological lab-on-chips. Here we demonstrate on a LiNbO:Fe substrate the visible-light-assisted condensation of the water vapor in a flowing stream created by an ultrasonic atomizer. Through analyzing the dynamic processes of the visible-light-assisted water condensation at different illumination intensities, it is found that the extent of the water condensation, the bending angle of water vapor trails and the interaction range of the condensation effect are highly dependent on the illumination intensity.

We demonstrate an all-optical active mode of dielectric microdroplet splitting in a sandwich structure consisting of two anti-symmetrical y-cut LN:Fe substrates. The dynamic process of the microdroplet splitting and the simulation of the electrostatic interaction inside the sandwich gap show that the combination of two anti-symmetrical substrates are capable to provide a sufficient dielectrophoretic force and to reduce the unbalance of the drag forces for a stable and efficient splitting of the microdroplet. The dependences of the splitting time on the illumination intensity and the initial microdroplet size are also studied, and the results show that the microdroplet splitting process is fully governed by the establishment of the superposed photovoltaic field inside the sandwich gap.

We present a laser phase noise (PN) induced effect of a phase-modulation-to-intensity-modulation conversion noise and noise pedestals underneath each of the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) subcarriers in a self-coherent optical OFDM transmission using a self-homodyne technique. We provide a statistical analysis on the received symbols using a histogram to demonstrate the effect of a phase rotation term and inter-subcarrier interference individually and collectively. The PN is then compensated using a simple time delay to realign the phase walk-off of the subcarriers relative to the carrier.

We develop on lithium niobate crystals a photorefractive direct-laser-writing approach, in which we combine in one beam both direct writing and phase-delay probing functionalities to extract the in situ information of the refractive index or the electrostatic field. The phase-delay signal, predicted well by the photorefractive theory, is used as feedback for tuning the exposure time or scanning speed of the focused laser in order to control the refractive index change (Δn) at single points and scanning lines. Different features found in creating Δn at the points and lines are explained by the different photorefractive responses in the two cases.

Photo-assisted proton-exchange (PAPE) is carried out on the +c- and y-surfaces of Fe-doped LiNbO crystals and the impact of the crystal orientation on the PAPE and the subsequent photo-assisted chemical etching (PACE) is investigated. The proton distributions and the morphologies of the proton-exchanged surfaces are studied by using Micro-FT-IR, Micro-Raman, optical and scanning electron microscopy. Through the PAPE process the proton-exchange can be confined in a specific region by an incident laser beam with fixed intensity profile.
