Infection Screening and Vaccination of Adult and Pediatric Patients with Autoimmune Inflammatory Rheumatic Diseases: An Emirati Delphi Consensus.

Introduction: Patients with autoimmune and inflammatory rheumatic diseases (AIIRD) have an increased susceptibility to infections due to their compromised immune systems and the use of immunosuppressive therapies. Infections are a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in these patients, emphasizing the need for strategies such as infection control and vaccination to prevent avoidable harm to both patients and healthcare workers. This study aims to provide expert consensus on infection screening and vaccination guidelines for AIIRD patients.

Macrophage Activation Syndrome in a Patient with Systemic Lupus Erythematous Triggered by Tuberculous Meningitis.

Background: Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), is characterized by systemic uncontrolled inflammation resulting from immune dysregulation secondary to various triggers, including genetics, infections, autoimmune diseases, and malignancies. Macrophage activation syndrome (MAS) is an immune dysregulation phenomenon, in which an underlying rheumatological disease is present. We report a rare, interesting case of a middle-aged female, with a systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) flare complicated by macrophage activation syndrome (MAS), in which tuberculous meningitis (TBM) was the identified trigger.

The role of single-dose prophylactic methotrexate in the prevention of post-molar gestational trophoblastic neoplasia in patients with high-risk molar pregnancy.

Introduction: Prophylactic chemotherapy (PC) has been suggested to be effective in prevention of post molar gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (PGTN) in patients with high-risk molar pregnancies. The goal of this study is to assess the efficacy of single dose methotrexate as PC in terms of spontaneous remission, time to remission, and progression to PGTN.

Materials And Methods: Patients with molar pregnancy were recruited to the study and underwent cervical dilation and suction curettage.

Clinical features and survival rate of patients with ovarian granulosa cell tumor in Iran; a 10-year retrospective study.

Introduction: Ovarian granulosa cell tumor (OGCT) is a rare female pathology with few available demographic data. Besides, there are no comprehensive clinical characteristics regarding the OGCT in Iran. Thus, this study aimed to assess the clinical features and survival rate of OGCT patients in Iran to expand the scope of knowledge in this field.

Variation in Long-Term Postoperative Mortality Risk by Race/Ethnicity After Major Non-cardiac Surgeries in the Veterans Health Administration.

Background: Few large sample studies have examined whether disparities, as measured by the proxy of race/ethnicity, are observed in long-term mortality after high-risk operations performed in a United States national health system. We compared operation year-related mortality risk by race/ethnicity after high-risk operative interventions among patients receiving care within the VHA.

Methods: From the Veterans Affairs Corporate Data Warehouse and Surgical Quality Improvement Program, data were retrieved for 426,695 patients undergoing high-risk surgical procedures in non-cardiac, general, vascular, thoracic, orthopedic, neurosurgery, and genitourinary specialties between 2000 and 2018.

Introduction And Importance: Uterine rupture is a rare condition that typically occurs in a scarred uterus and can happen during late pregnancy, labor, or the early postpartum period. Since most cases are seen in patients with a history of cesarean surgery, the anterior lower uterine segment is the most affected area. Most patients present with acute symptoms that compromise the fetus and the mother in a life-threatening manner.

Effect of attachment flash on clear aligner force delivery: an in vitro study.

Background: The introduction of auxiliaries such as composite attachment has improved the force delivery of clear aligner (CA) therapy. However, the placement of the attachment may give rise to a flash, defined as excess resin around the attachment which may affect CA force delivery. This in vitro study aims to determine the differences in the force generated by the attachment in the presence or absence of flash in CA.

Aims: Our study aims to provide an enhanced comprehension of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) burden in United Arab Emirates (UAE), over a five-year period from payer and societal perspective.

TCAP gene is not a common cause of cardiomyopathy in Iranian patients.

Background: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) are the most frequent cardiomyopathies that cause acute heart failure and sudden cardiac death. Previous genetic reports have shown that pathogenic variants of genes encoding Z-disc components such as telethonin protein (TCAP) are the primary cause of DCM and HCM.

Methods: This study was the first investigation on the TCAP gene among the Iranian cardiomyopathies population wherein the TCAP gene was analyzed in 40 unrelated patients (17 females and 23 males) who were clinically diagnosed with HCM and DCM.

During latent infection, the HSV-1 virus generates only a single transcript, LAT, which encodes six miRNAs. The GABAergic pathway signaling system is an essential cell signaling pathway influenced by various therapeutic targets and some brain disorders, such as epilepsy. This study found that miRNAs encoding LAT might target the STXBP1 and GABBR2 genes, which are among the significant genes in the GABAergic pathway.

Background: Health literacy and e-health literacy are important factors helping people shape awareness of health behaviours in different aspects, including sleep hygiene behaviours. Good sleep hygiene behaviours promote sleep quality and are beneficial to overall mental wellbeing.

Objective: We aimed to examine if sleep hygiene behaviours may mediate the association between health literacy/e-health literacy and mental wellbeing.

An ensemble modeling approach to predict spatial risk patches of the Persian leopard-livestock conflicts in Lorestan Province, Iran.

This study was conducted in the Lorestan Province in the west of Iran with two objectives of identifying major environmental variables in spatial risk modeling and identifying spatial risk patches of livestock predation by the Persian leopard. An ensemble approach of three models of maximum entropy (MaxEnt), generalized boosting model (GBM), and random forest (RF) were applied for spatial risk modeling. Our results revealed that livestock density, distance to villages, forest density, and human population density were the most important variables in spatial risk modeling of livestock predation by the leopard.

Background: Synchronous endometrial and ovarian cancer (SEOC) is a relatively rare entity with indistinct clinical manifestation but have a better prognosis compared to metastatic malignancy of each organ. Background: Methanol is a highly toxic, non-potable alcohol. Outbreaks of methanol toxicity occur due to its fraudulent addition to alcoholic beverages as a cheaper substitute for ethanol. Recently, alongside the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, rumors circulated on social media that consuming alcohol can prevent or cure the virus, leading to a COVID-19 and methanol-induced optic neuropathy (MON) syndemic.
