Introduction: The management of inflammation after colorectal surgery is important to decrease the susceptibility to postoperative complications. Platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in the peripheral blood are known as two important inflammatory markers. In this study we evaluated and compared colorectal laparoscopy and laparotomy based on the PLR and NLR.

Pharmacy Technicians' Perceptions of Risk Reduction Strategies Implemented in Response to the Repetitive Strain Injury Associated with Sterile Compounding.

Following a 240% increase in the number of compounded sterile preparations between 2012 and 2013, three pharmacy technicians at a metropolitan public hospital suffered hand-related, repetitive strain injuries. This study describes the main safety measures implemented to reduce the risk of repetitive strain injuries associated with sterile compounding at the study hospital, and reports pharmacy technicians' perceptions of their effectiveness. The implemented risk reduction strategies were categorized into five domains of 1) equipment and consumables, 2) training and assessment, 3) Lean waste reduction, 4) roster and shift limits, and 5) workload allocation score.

Dexmedetomidine as an Analgesic Agent with Neuroprotective Properties: Experimental and Clinical Aspects.

We propose a dynamic content-specific LDA topic modeling technique that can help to identify different domains of COVID-specific discourse that can be used to track societal shifts in concerns or views.

Background: Health literacy (HL) may affect the consumption of fast food. We aimed to evaluate the effect of HL on fast food consumption among adult populations in Iran.

Methods: We evaluated HL and fast food consumption in 421 adult participants with age range of 18-65 years old in Fasa, Fars Province, southern Iran.

Prevalence of symptoms of anxiety and depression in patients with inflammatory bowel disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a lifelong condition with no cure. Neurodegenerative disorders are a diversity of disorders, surrounding Alzheimer's (AD), Parkinson's (PD), Huntington's diseases (HD), and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) accompanied by some other less common diseases generally characterized by either developed deterioration of central or peripheral nervous system structurally or functionally. Today, with the viewpoint of an increasingly aging society, the number of patients with neurodegenerative diseases and sociomedical burdens will spread intensely. During the last decade, stem cell technology has attracted great attention for treating neurodegenerative diseases worldwide because of its unique attributes.

Interpretation of Hematological, Biochemical, and Immunological Findings of COVID-19 Disease: Biomarkers Associated with Severity and Mortality.

Towards defect-free thin films of the earth-abundant absorber zinc phosphide by nanopatterning.

Large-scale deployment of thin-film photovoltaics will be facilitated through earth-abundant components. Herein, selective area epitaxy and lateral overgrowth epitaxy are explored for the growth of zinc phosphide (ZnP), a promising earth-abundant absorber. The ideal growth conditions are elucidated, and the nucleation of single-crystal nanopyramids that subsequently evolve towards coalesced thin-films is demonstrated.

Evolution and transformation of early modern cosmological knowledge: a network study.

We investigated the evolution and transformation of scientific knowledge in the early modern period, analyzing more than 350 different editions of textbooks used for teaching astronomy in European universities from the late fifteenth century to mid-seventeenth century. These historical sources constitute the Sphaera Corpus. By examining different semantic relations among individual parts of each edition on record, we built a multiplex network consisting of six layers, as well as the aggregated network built from the superposition of all the layers.
