Encephalocraniocutaneous lipomatosis (ECCL), also known as Haberland syndrome, is a rare, nonhereditary, nonprogressive congenital neurocutaneous syndrome with underlying ectodermal dysgenesis. The classic triad of this syndrome is central nervous system (CNS), ocular, and cutaneous involvement as unilateral lipomatous lesions of the scalp, neck, and face with ipsilateral brain anomalies and ipsilateral ocular choristoma. Herein, this study reports a case of a 2-year-old boy presented with status epilepticus for the first time.

Purpose: Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play an important role in gene regulation and are emerging as major players in cancer biology, This study investigates the expression of FAM83H-AS1 in breast cancer and its association with tumor grade, hormone receptors, pathological diagnosis, and molecular markers related to epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT).

Methods: The expression of the long non-coding RNA FAM83H-AS1 in 80 breast cancer patients was assessed using quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR).

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) or metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is a significant global public health dilemma with wide-ranging social and economic implications. Diet and lifestyle modifications remain essential components of NAFLD management. The current study investigated the association between diet-related inflammation and NAFLD among 3110 Iranian adults participating in the Amol Cohort Study (AmolCS), employing the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) approach.

Glioblastomas are highly invasive brain tumors among perilous diseases. They are characterized by their fast proliferation and delayed detection that render them a significant focal point for medical research endeavors within the realm of cancer. Among glioblastomas, (GBM) is the most aggressive and prevalent malignant brain tumor.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates pancreatic duct (PD) dilation identified through endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) and its potential links to various pancreatic and biliary diseases.
  • Among 3,109 subjects, 599 had PD dilation; the most common diagnosis was pancreatic adenocarcinoma, found in 39.4% of cases, followed by sphincter of Oddi dysfunction.
  • The findings suggest that PD dilation is a significant indicator of pancreatic neoplasms and other related conditions, highlighting its importance in clinical assessments even when the cause is not clear.

Objectives: The present study aims to examine the hypothetical model of the relationship between food insecurity and Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in a sample of Iranian adults.

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 275 subjects (18-70 years old) who met the inclusion criteria were recruited. Fatty liver was diagnosed by abdominal ultrasonography, and eligible patients underwent liver fibro scan assessment to determine fibrosis and steatosis.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on understanding the recurrence rate of colorectal polyps in average-risk individuals, emphasizing the importance of colorectal cancer (CRC) in the Middle East and the role of benign adenomas in its development.
  • A total of 237 patients were enrolled, with 102 completing a 3-year follow-up, revealing that a significant percentage developed adenomatous polyps, particularly those with a more complex morphology having a higher chance of recurrence.
  • The findings suggest the need for enhanced colonoscopy screening in areas previously deemed low-risk for CRC and recommend more frequent surveillance for patients showing dysplasia.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is expanding as a global health problem with approximately 25% of the world's population affected by it. Dietary modification is one of the most important strategies for preventing NAFLD. The association between nutrient density and the Healthy Eating Index 2015 (HEI2015) with NAFLD demonstrates that nutrient density is an independent predictor of NAFLD in Iranian adults [fully adjusted model: OR (95% CI): 0.

Background: Due to the numerous complications associated with sickle cell disease (SCD), patients often receive a variety of medications alongside their SCD treatment. However, a notable gap exists in the current literature regarding medication use patterns among them. This study aimed to investigate medication usage patterns in patients with SCD.

  • Lysine demethylase 5 (KDM5) proteins play a role in neurological disorders like Alzheimer's, and targeting them could be a therapeutic approach.
  • Conventional KDM5 inhibitors are limited because they only affect the enzyme's activity, not its overall function.
  • Researchers developed new compounds called PROTACs that degrade KDM5 proteins, leading to enhanced neurite growth in neuroblastoma cells, indicating their potential as drug candidates for treating neurological disorders.

Background: Iran is facing an epidemiological transition with the increasing burden of non-communicable diseases, such as obesity-related disorders and cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). We conducted a population-based prospective study to assess the prevalence and incidence rates of CVDs and obesity-related metabolic disorders and to evaluate the predictive ability of various CVD risk assessment tools in an Iranian population.

Method: We enrolled 5,799 participants in Amol, a city in northern Iran, in 2009-2010 and carried out the first repeated measurement (RM) after seven years (2016-2017).

Introduction: Rhinoplasty is one of the most common surgeries in the ENT department. Rhinoplasty hemorrhage is one of the complications that different strategies have been used to reduce it. Reduction of bleeding reduces the risk of complications such as hemolytic and non-hemolytic reactions, acute lung damage, viral and bacterial infections, hypothermia and coagulation disorders.

Background And Aims: Although there is extensive literature showing the ability of the dietary inflammation index (DII®) to predict concentrations of plasma inflammatory markers, few studies are testing the association between DII scores and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Considering the high prevalence of NAFLD and its complications, we conducted a validation study of DII scores and examined its association with NAFLD in the general adult population of Iran.

Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 3110 adult participants in the Amol Cohort Study (AmolCS) who underwent abdominal ultrasonography to diagnose NAFLD.

  • A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to assess the accuracy of ultrasonography for diagnosing elbow fractures in children, as previous studies have shown mixed results.
  • The analysis included 648 studies with 1,000 patients, revealing a pooled sensitivity of 95% and specificity of 87%, indicating that ultrasonography is generally effective.
  • Despite promising findings, the authors caution that the studies had limitations and suggest the need for future high-quality research to better standardize the use of ultrasonography in clinical settings.
