Introduction: Amphotericin B lipid complex (ABLC) is an effective antifungal agent for treating invasive fungal infections (IFIs) even though its formulation is associated with potential adverse events, including those related to its infusion. This study aimed to analyze the incidence of acute infusion-related side effects (IRSE) associated with ABLC and their relationship with the profile of patients with oncohematological disease admitted in Brazilian reference tertiary hospitals.

Methods: This is an observational retrospective study that included clinical records of patients hospitalized, in a period of 6 years, diagnosed with probable or proved IFI and treated with at least two doses of ABLC.

This study analyzed the effect of thermal stress on erythrocytes of Notothenia rossii and Notothenia coriiceps, abundant notothenioids in Admiralty Bay, Antarctic Peninsula. In both species, the antioxidant defense system enzymes, superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, glutathione-S transferase, glutathione reductase were punctually altered (8°C for 1, 3 and 6 days) in erythrocytes, indicating that these markers are not ideal for termal stress. However, under the influence of thermal stress, morphological changes in Notothenia coriiceps erythrocytes were observed at all exposure times (1, 3 and 6 days at 8°C), and in Notothenia rossii occurred in 6 days.

Morphological and morphometric variability of the small-sized coastal squid Lolliguncula brevis was assessed along the largest part of its latitudinal range in the southern hemisphere, off the Brazilian coast (8º S - 27º S). We study the quantum-critical point scenario within the unified theory of superconductivity and antiferromagnetism based on the SO(5) symmetry. Closed-form expression for the quantum-critical scaling function for the dynamic spin susceptibility is obtained from the lattice SO(5) quantum nonlinear sigma-model in three dimensions, revealing that in the quantum-critical region the frequency scale for spin excitations is simply set by the absolute temperature. Implications for the non-Fermi liquid behavior of the normal-state resistivity due to spin fluctuations in the quantum-critical region are also presented.

The aim of this work was to elucidate the deciding factors of selection of pupils to hard-of-hearing and deaf children schools. The material consisted of 138 hard-of-hearing and 170 deaf school children, aged from 6 to 16 years. The hard-of-hearing children revealed severe and profound hearing impairments, passed through on the average two and half years of hearing and speech rehabilitation before entering to the school and used continually all day their hearing aids.
