Article Synopsis
  • Continuous enteral nutrition (CEN) is the usual way to feed patients in intensive care units, but intermittent enteral nutrition (IEN) is being looked at as a possible alternative.
  • A study reviewed 10 different trials comparing CEN and IEN, looking at things like how much patients eat and if they get sick from their feeding.
  • The results showed that both CEN and IEN were mostly similar in safety and effectiveness, but more research is needed with more patients to find the best ways to feed ICU patients.
