Objectives: The implantable Doppler probe can monitor the patency of vascular anastomosis, thereby facilitating early detection of vascular thrombosis critical to reducing graft loss. In this study, we examined the effectiveness of this technology compared with standard clinical care in reducing thrombosis-related graft loss and the requirement for color duplex ultrasonography in the first 24 hours postoperatively by a medical literature search of the application of this technology in kidney transplantation.

Background: Recent research indicates that intravenous ferric carboxymaltose (IV FCM) presents a promising solution for Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS), distinguishing itself from other iron sources with minimal to no adverse effects. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the efficacy and safety profile of administering IV FCM in patients with RLS, assuming that RLS and Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) are correlated.

An electronic nose (E-nose) is a technology fundamentally inspired by the human nose, designed to detect, recognize, and differentiate specific odors or volatile components in complex and chaotic environments. Comprising an array of sensors with meticulously designed nanostructured architectures, E-noses translate the chemical information captured by these sensors into useful metrics using complex pattern recognition algorithms. E-noses can significantly enhance the quality of life by offering preventive point-of-care devices for medical diagnostics through breath analysis, and by monitoring and tracking hazardous and toxic gases in the environment.

As of 28 October 2020, there are over 44 000 000 confirmed COVID-19 infections and over 1 000 000 deaths worldwide, including 945 367 infections and 45 765 deaths in the UK. Acute respiratory distress syndrome occurs in 50% of patients with secondary haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, a hyperinflammatory syndrome characterised by a surge of cytokines, including interleukin 6 (IL-6). Here we describe the case of the first patient with severe COVID-19 pneumonia successfully treated with tocilizumab, a humanised monoclonal antibody against the IL-6 receptor, in the UK.
