Counseling patients on their HIV test results is an important part of undergraduate and graduate medical education. However, many trainees and physicians feel ill prepared to counsel patients on potentially distressing results. We present a case involving early disclosure of a false-positive HIV screening test result to a patient and the downstream effects of this premature disclosure.

Dual Innervation in Anterolateral Thigh (ALT) Phalloplasty: Consider the Femoral Perforating Nerves.

Unlabelled: Sensation following anterolateral thigh (ALT) phalloplasty is traditionally viewed as inferior to sensation following radial forearm phalloplasty, potentially due to fewer nerve coaptations performed. Neural anatomy of the ALT is well described, with branches of the femoral nerve innervating the medial flap. The purpose of this article is to draw attention to these nerves as a potential source of additional coaptation in ALT phalloplasty allowing for dual flap innervation.

Mandibular Myofibroma and Severe Trismus: A Complex Case and Review of Complications.

A female child was investigated for insidious onset of temporomandibular joint dysfunction and trismus in the setting of a mandibular myofibroma. Myofibromas, benign mesenchymal neoplasms composed of spindle cells, are rarely found in the oral cavity, most commonly in the mandible. These lesions are historically described as indolent with a high cure rate and minimal recurrence rates following surgical resection.

Comprehensiveness of Online Information in Gender-Affirming Surgery: Current Trends and Future Directions in Academic Plastic Surgery.

Background: Despite high rates of online misinformation, transgender and gender diverse (TGD) patients frequently utilize online resources to identify suitable providers of gender-affirming surgical care.

Aim: The objective of this study was to analyze the webpages of United States academic plastic surgery programs for the types of gender-affirming surgery (GAS) procedures offered and to determine how this correlates with the presence of an institutional transgender health program and geographic region in order to identify potential gaps for improvement.

Methods: Online institutional webpages of 82 accredited academic plastic surgery programs were analyzed for the presence of the following: GAS services, specification of type of GAS by facial, chest, body and genital surgery, and presence of a concomitant institutional transgender health program.

Anatomical and sexual health considerations among transfeminine individuals who have undergone vaginoplasty: A review.

As acceptance of transgender and gender diverse individuals continues to increase, gender-affirming surgery, a cornerstone in the management of gender dysphoria, is becoming more readily available. HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) disproportionately affect these populations, but there are limited epidemiologic and management data on STIs in people who have undergone gender-affirming genital surgery such as vaginoplasty. This review will provide clinicians with anatomical details about the various vaginoplasty procedures currently being performed, complications associated with these procedures, and an overview of the current literature describing HIV/STI epidemiology among transfeminine individuals who have undergone vaginoplasty.

Reconstructive Management of Gunshot Wounds to the Frontal Sinus: An Urban Trauma Center's Perspective.

Introduction: In the last decade, we have seen a steady increase in the incidence of frontal sinus trauma due to gunshot wounds and a decrease in motor vehicle trauma. Penetrating gunshot wounds to the frontal sinus present a unique challenge to the reconstructive surgeon because they require careful consideration of the management principles of plastic surgery. Despite previous reviews on frontal sinus trauma, there are no studies examining the management techniques of frontal sinus fractures due specifically to gunshot wounds.
