Background: The triglyceride glucose index (TyG index) has been regarded as a reliable surrogate marker of insulin resistance and an independent predictor of diabetes. However, few studies have reported the association between the TyG index and diabetes in the elderly population. Accordingly, this study aimed to investigate the association between the TyG index and diabetes progression in elderly Chinese.

However, to date, there have been no studies investigating the predictive values of 1 h-PG for the risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and all-cause mortality in the elderly population in China. This study aimed to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of 1 h-PG and two-hour plasma glucose (2 h-PG) to predict the risk of CVD and all-cause mortality in the Chinese elderly population.

There were 150 patients with DKD in the observation group (urinary albumin excretion rate (UAER) ≥ 300 mg 24 h), and 160 patients with a more than 10 year history of type 2 diabetes but without retinopathy and DKD (UAER < 30 mg 24 h) in the control group. Genotypes of three tagged single-nucleotide polymorphism loci (rs3818292, rs4746720 and rs10823108) in the SIRT1 gene in the two groups were detected.

The fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) is a phosphaturic hormone produced by osteoblasts and osteocytes. However, the regulatory mechanisms of FGF23 in the progression of osteoporosis remain poorly understood.

Background: Overweight and obesity are rapidly becoming major global health, social, and economic problems. Irisin is a newly termed hormone that is related to metabolic diseases. In the present study, the mechanism underlying the effect of Metformin on promoting irisin release from skeletal muscle was investigated.

Aims: Recent studies have revealed the relationship between irisin and insulin signaling, while positive associations of muscle FNDC5 with insulin resistance is observed. However, the functional mechanism of irisin on muscle insulin resistance is still obscure. This study aims to investigate the effect of irisin on muscle insulin action.

In order to investigate the effect of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNFalpha) on resistin expression in 3T3-L1 adipocytes, and further explore its mechanisms, the differentiated 3T3-L1 adipocytes were incubated with 0, 1, 10, 100 ng/mL TNFalpha respectively for 24 h, and then the expression of resistin was determined. The differentiated 3T3-L1 adipocytes were incubated with 100 ng/ mL TNFalpha for 3, 6, 24 h respectively, and then the expression of resistin mRNA was analyzed. 3T3-L1 adipocytes were induced to differentiate into mature adipocytes.
