Background: The main purpose of this study was to describe the all-inside arthroscopic technique for repairing anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) avulsion fractures at the attachment points of the fibula and talus, and to evaluate the functional outcomes during long-term follow-up.

Methods: The data of 78 patients with ATFL avulsion fracture treated in our hospital from August 2013 to November 2016 were analyzed retrospectively. All patients underwent surgery.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the effectiveness of using one anchor versus two anchors during all-inside arthroscopic Broström-Gould surgery for chronic lateral ankle instability (CLAI), with a focus on clinical outcomes over a follow-up period of 36 to 72 months.
  • A total of 75 patients were retrospectively analyzed, divided into two groups: 36 patients with a single anchor and 39 with double anchors, showing no significant pre-surgery differences.
  • Results indicated that while there were no major differences in pain and overall function scores between the two groups, the double-anchor group achieved significantly better scores on specific functional assessments and had a higher return rate to preinjury sports activities.
