Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the preventive and therapeutic effects of rebamipide gargle in comparison with benzydamine in head and neck cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy with or without chemotherapy.

Materials And Methods: Phase III randomized clinical trial was conducted from January 2021 till August 2022 on one hundred patients with head and neck cancer receiving high doses of radiotherapy. These patients were equally allocated into either rebamipide group or benzydamine group, The measured outcomes were the incidence of oral mucositis ≥ grade1, according to the WHO mucositis scale, in addition to the duration, and the onset of oral mucositis.

These membranes, made of cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs), carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), zeolite, and citric acid, aim to offer eco-friendly water treatment solutions. CNCs, obtained from sugarcane bagasse, act as the foundational material for the membranes.

Incidental right renal agenesis in a 23-year-old patient: A case report.

Renal agenesis refers to the congenital absence or complete failure of development of one or both kidneys. It occurs when the kidneys fail to form during embryonic development. This case report describes the presentation of a 23-year-old male patient who experienced sporadic episodes of abdominal pain on the right side and occasional episodes of hematuria.

Background: Screening and early diagnosis of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) are directly associated with increased survival rate and improved prognosis. Noninvasive diagnostic tools have been implemented in the early detection as toluidine blue staining, optical imaging, and oral cytology. This study aimed to assess and compare the presence of micronuclei (MN) in oral exfoliative cytology of healthy controls, subjects exposed to high-risk factors for oral cancer, subjects with oral potentially malignant lesions (OPMLs), and those with malignant oral lesions.

Clinical and biochemical assessment of the effect of topical use of coenzyme Q10 versus topical corticosteroid in management of symptomatic oral lichen planus: randomized controlled clinical trial.

Background: Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic mucocutaneous immunologically mediated condition that has a great adverse effect on oral functions. Corticosteroids are still the first drugs of choice used in the treatment of OLP; however, they have extensive medical side effects. The present study was carried out to assess the clinical therapeutic effect of the topical use of coenzyme Q10 (coQ10 or ubiquinol) versus topical corticosteroids in the management of symptomatic OLP and to determine whether the effect, if any, was due to the powerful antioxidant activity of coQ10.

The utilization of mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-derived exosomes, which include numerous growth factors, cytokines, and microRNAs, is the primary aspect of the novel MSC activity models. The current research aims to: (i) identify the morphology of exosomes; (ii) determine exosomes secreted into MSCs conditioned cell culture medium; and (iii) perform a comprehensive characterization of isolated exosomes and elucidate their protective role in the diabetic nephropathy animal model. Ultracentrifugation was performed by utilizing the culture supernatant of MSCs.

Hybrid Thoracic Aortic Repair and Aortic Valve-In-Valve Replacement for Chronic Type A Dissection.

We describe a case of hybrid total thoracic aortic repair and valve-in-valve transcatheter aortic valve replacement in a high-risk patient with complicated chronic type A dissection and severe prosthetic aortic stenosis. The patient underwent a three-stage-procedure including aortic arch debranching, thoracic endovascular aortic repair of the ascending aorta, aortic arch and descending thoracic aorta, and direct aortic valve-in-valve replacement using transcatheter heart valve. The details of the procedures are described with a discussion of the challenges and the decision-making process.

Possible Correlation between Genotypes and Fecal Calprotectin in Children with Diarrhea.

Background: Giardiasis is one of the leading causes of diarrhea, particularly among children under the age of five in developing countries. Fecal calprotectin (FC) is an important biomarker for diagnosis and monitoring of inflammtory bowel disease, but other diagnoses should be considered in light of its elevation. We aimed to evaluate FC level in patients diagnosed with giardiasis and elucidate a possible correlation between genotypes and FC levels.

The survival reduction after transplantation limited the clinical uses of stem cells so the current study explored preconditioning adipose-derived stem cells (ADMSCs) and all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) effects on cisplatin that caused acute kidney injury (AKI). One hundred and fifty Sprague-Dawley male rats were distributed into five groups: control group; Cisplatin (CIS) group; CIS and ATRA group; CIS and ADMSC group, and CIS, ATRA, and ADMSCs group. Ten rats were euthanized after 3rd, 7th, and 11th days from CIS injection.

Bee venom ameliorates cardiac dysfunction in diabetic hyperlipidemic rats.

High levels of blood glucose and lipids are well-known risk factors for heart diseases. Bee venom is a natural product that has a potent hypoglycemic, hypolipidemic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effects. The current study aimed to determine the bee venom effects on cardiac dysfunction compared to combined therapy of metformin and atorvastatin in diabetic hyperlipidemic rats.

The oral microbiome of treated and untreated chronic HCV infection: A preliminary study.

Objectives: Chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a debilitating disease that is lately treated using direct-acting antivirals (DAAs). Changes in the oral microbiome were detected in other liver diseases; however, oral microbiome was never investigated in patients having chronic HCV infection, whether pre- or post-treatment.

Materials And Methods: This case-control preliminary study enrolled three equal groups: Group (I): untreated HCV patients; group (II): HCV patients who achieved viral clearance after DAA administration; and group (III): healthy controls.

Diagnostic performance of kidney injury molecule-1 for detection of abnormal urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio in type 2 diabetes mellitus.

In this study, we aimed to investigate whether serum and urinary levels of kidney injury molecule 1 (KIM-1) are increased in type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) patients with albuminuria. While the correlation of urinary KIM-1 with renal impairment has been well established, the association with serum KIM-1 has not yet been so well documented. The present pilot study included Egyptian patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D): A total of 84 patients with T2D (age 49-64 years; 20 men) were included in the analysis of the present study.

Study on Urinary Candidate Metabolome for the Early Detection of Breast Cancer.

A metabolomic study for determination of certain urinary metabolomes, 1-methyladenosine (1-MA), 1-methylguanosine (1-MG), and 8-hydroxy-2' deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) in urine specimens of breast cancer patients. The accuracy of these metabolites and their combined score with cancer antigen 15-3 (CA15-3) was developed to improve the early detection of breast cancer. This study recruited 52 healthy individuals, 47 benign breast tumors, and 167 malignant breast tumor patients.
