Fused deposition modeling (FDM) is well suited for microfluidic prototyping due to its low investment cost and a wide range of accessible materials. Nevertheless, most commercial FDM materials exhibit low chemical and thermal stability. This reduces the scope of applications and limits their use in research and development, especially for on-chip chemical synthesis.

Article Synopsis
  • Bone defects and orthopedic infections are significant challenges in medical treatment, prompting the exploration of materials like poly L-lactic acid (PLLA) for therapy.
  • In this study, PLLA nanofibrous scaffolds were tested for their effectiveness in enhancing the growth and bone-forming capability of human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs), particularly when combined with donepezil hydrochloride (DH).
  • Results indicated that hMSCs on PLLA scaffolds with DH showed increased activity in key bone-related markers, suggesting that this combination could be beneficial for bone tissue engineering.
