The near-infrared (NIR) I and II regions are known for having good light transparency of tissue and less scatter compared to the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum. However, the number of bright fluorophores in these regions is limited. Here we present a detailed spectroscopic characterization of a DNA-stabilized silver nanocluster (DNA-AgNC) that emits at around 960 nm in solution.
View Article and Find Full Text PDF"Tryptophan-coated blue fluorescent copper nanocluster (CuNC@Trp) was prepared by a strategy where Trp acts as both the reducing and capping agent. The fluorescence of the CuNC, with excitation/emission peaks at 340/405 nm, is selectively quenched by iron(II) and iron(III) ions. Studying the mechanism of this interaction revealed that Fe and Fe ions can make a ground state complex with the protecting ligand which can result in quenching of the cluster emission.
