Fine-Needle Aspiration Biopsies of Ovarian Masses: A Reliable Technique.

Objective: In gynecology, fine-needle aspiration (FNA) has an overall accuracy of 94.5% in differentiation between benign and malignant tumors. The purpose of this study was to determine reliable cytological criteria for categorizing ovarian masses into benign and malignant categories, their subtypes, and also to evaluate FNA accuracy in the diagnosis of ovarian tumors in relation to histopathological findings.

A Comparative Study of Potassium Hydroxide versus CO2 Laser Vaporization in The Treatment of Female Genital Warts: A Controlled Clinical Trial.

Background: Genital warts are the most common viral sexually transmitted disease affecting 1% of the population. A prospective, open-label controlled trial was performed to compare topical 5% potassium hydroxide (KOH) solution with CO2 laser in the treatment of female genital warts.

Methods: Seventy patients were enrolled in the study after convenience sampling.

Parkinsonism in a recurrent cervical cancer patient: case report and review of the literature.

A 49 year old woman diagnosed as a cervical cancer patient, after receiving appropriate treatment experienced metastasis in her abdominopelvic cavity. After aggressive management, she was well for a while. However, she developed to a poor condition consisting of urologic, gastroenterological, hematologic and neurologic problems just in a short time.

The Effect of Extrafascial Hysterectomy After Completion of External Beam Radiotherapy for Treatment of Locally Advanced Stages (IIB-III) of Cervical Cancer.

Weekly intramuscular methotrexate in the treatment of low-risk gestational trophoblastic neoplasia.

Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the efficacy of weekly intramuscular (IM) methotrexate without dose escalation as first-line chemotherapy for low-risk gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (LRGTN).

Methods: Thirty-three women with post-molar LRGTN in the division of gynecology oncology at the Shiraz University of Medical Sciences were treated with weekly IM methotrexate at 30 mg/m(2) without dose escalation. The serum level of beta-hCG was detected every week.

Investigation of soluble HER2 and transforming growth factor Beta-1 serum levels in gestational trophoblastic disease.

HER2/neu and TGF-beta1 are over-expressed in various types of malignancies. It appears that they play an important role in the biologic behavior of tumors and have prognostic value. Gestational tropoblastic diseases (GTDs) comprise of a heterogeneous group characterized by abnormally proliferating trophoblastic tissues, ranging from benign to malignant.

Nutritional status of schoolchildren in rural Iran.

The present study compared the nutritional status of schoolchildren from recently settled, ethnic minority tribespeople with those from a Persian village in southern Iran. Height and weight were measured and blood was collected from school children at three time points over 1.5 years.
