A new method for detecting individual trees in aerial LiDAR point clouds using absolute height maxima.

Data acquired from aerial laser scanner systems are increasingly used for detecting individual trees in operational inventories. In conventional analyses, tree detection is often performed on raster models that use local height maxima filters; an option that is likely to accumulate important errors. In order to reduce errors and improve the detection of individual trees, a new method is proposed that uses an Absolute Height Maxima (AHM) filter applied on the original point clouds obtained from Aerial Laser Scanning (ALS).

Magnetic and electric hotspots via fractal clusters of hollow silicon nanoparticles.

We show that fractal clusters of hollow Si nanoparticles provide both magnetic hotspots (MHs) and electric hotspots (EHs). The hollow size tailors the wavelength dependence of the field enhancement. In the wavelength window 400-750 nm, magnetic field intensity enhancements of 10-3790 and electric field intensity enhancements of 10-400 are achievable.

Predictive value of S-100B protein and neuron specific-enolase as markers of traumatic brain damage in clinical use.

Objective: S-100B and NSE proteins are considered to be neurobiochemical markers for the brain damage. The aim of this study was to consider the diagnostic and prognostic validity of the initial serum levels of S-100B and NSE in clinical use.

Methods: Forty-five patients with traumatic brain injury were included in this prospective study.
