Tracking melioidosis in Iran: Utilizing abattoir-based surveillance as a One Health approach.

Background: Burkholderia pseudomallei, an environmental saprophyte bacterium, causes melioidosis in humans and animals. It was first discovered in Iran between 1967 and 1976 in small ruminants, equines, environments and humans. No subsequent studies have been conducted to determine the existence and prevalence of this pathogen in the country.

A novel biphasic approach to reactivation of dormant Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis.

A new culture technique that involves a potato slice and enriched Middlebrook 7H9 in a two-part glass tube has been developed to revive dormant or persistent Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis and acclimate it to Middlebrook 7H9 liquid media. This method is more efficient than directly introducing the bacteria into the liquid medium.

Evaluation of tuberculin skin test (TST) in vervet monkeys (Chlorocebus pygerythrus) using experimentally tuberculin sensitized animals.

Background: Nowadays, several test methods with different useful values are available for diagnosis of the tuberculosis (TB) in non-human primates (NHPs). Despite some limitations of tuberculin skin test (TST), it is still the most commonly used method for TB testing of NHPs.

Methods: During this investigation, TST was performed upon three groups of experimentally tuberculin sensitized and one group of non-sensitized vervet monkeys (Chlorocebus pygerythrus) by means of two types of old tuberculin (OT) and two types of purified protein derivative (PPD) tuberculin.

Septicemic salmonellosis in a two-humped camel calf (Camelus bactrianus).

A 1-week old, two-humped female camel (Camelus bactrianus) calf with continual whining, epiphora, anorexia, muscle twitching, and lateral recumbency was referred to a veterinary hospital. Although she died shortly after preliminary clinical examination, but necropsy was performed and tissue samples were taken for further microbiological and pathological examinations. On bacteriological investigation, Salmonella typhimurium and Streptococcus agalactiae were isolated.
