In our retrospective multicenter study of patients 0 to 18 years of age who survived extracorporeal life support (ECLS) between January 2010 and December 2018, we sought to characterize the functional status scale (FSS) of ECLS survivors, determine the change in FSS from admission to discharge, and examine risk factors associated with development of new morbidity and unfavorable outcome. During the study period, there were 1,325 ECLS runs, 746 (56%) survived to hospital discharge. Pediatric patients accounted for 56%.

Methods: We performed a retrospective study of neonates (≤30 days) who underwent non-CPB cardiac surgery at 22 centers affiliated with the Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Consortium. CS-AKI was defined using the modified Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes serum creatinine and urine output criteria from postoperative days 0 to 6.

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are used as tocolytics, which are medications that suppress uterine contractions for preterm birth prevention. Their effect on cerebral/systemic vascular beds poses the question of whether antenatal NSAID exposure is associated with neonatal hypertension. We performed a retrospective case-control study in a tertiary neonatal intensive care unit, including 40 hypertension cases (hospitalized neonates ≥ 35 weeks with systolic BP > 100 mm Hg on three consecutive days) compared to 134 controls matched by gestational age at delivery, plurality, and delivery date.
