This study proposes an evaluation of the Diffusive Gradients in Thin films (DGT) technique to assess the labile fraction of trace metals and metalloids in anaerobic digestates. Experiments were performed in presence and absence of air to determine whether maintaining anaerobic conditions is mandatory during DGT deployments. A theoretically expected linear accumulation profile was observed for Fe, Mn, Ni, Mo, and As(III) in a manure-derived digestate and for Mn in distillery waste-derived digestate, whereas Al and Cu were detected without a consistent trend over time.

To investigate the effectiveness of selenium (Se) and Se nanoparticles (Se-NPs) in improving biochemical and physiological characteristics of savoury in drought stress conditions, a factorial experiment based on the completely randomised design with three replications was used. Results demonstrate that Se-NPs considerably enhanced several biochemical parameters, such as relative water content (RWC), antioxidant enzymes activity, and total soluble protein in drought and normal conditions. At the stress level from 100 to 40% of field capacity, a gradual decrease in chlorophyll and CARs contents was observed and under stress and normal conditions, the application of Se-NPs (10 mg L led to an increase in the content of pigments.

Improving the extent of adaptation and the choice of the most tolerant cultivar is the first step to mitigating the adverse effects of limited water, especially in susceptible plants such as strawberries. To address this issue, two commercial strawberry cultivars (Camarosa and Gaviota) were compared when irrigated to match 100, 75, 50, and 25% field capacity (FC) to simulate the control, slight, moderate, and severe drought stress conditions, respectively. Drought stress induced the reduction of total chlorophyll, carotenoid, relative water content, and phenolic content significantly, whereas the activity of antioxidant enzymes, electrolyte leakage, osmolyte accumulation, and oxidative markers upsurged progressively in drought severity-dependent behavior.
