Objective: The aim of the idiopathic granulomatous mastitis (IGM) consensus study was to evaluate the etiology, diagnostic steps, and differential diagnosis and propose a widely accepted clinical classification of this mysterious breast disease.

Method: The organization of a national IGM consensus was decided by the joint evaluation of the Turkish Federation of Breast Diseases Societies, SENATURK, and the Society of Breast Surgery. First, a working group of 11 members was formed, and a survey and workshop were organized to reach a common consensus.

Background: Oestrogen receptor positive (ER+)/HER-2 negative breast cancer (BC) is considered to be an immunologically cold tumour compared to triple negative breast cancer. Therefore, the tumour microenvironment (TME) of ER+/HER-2 negative BC is understudied. The aim of this project is to investigate the TME and the immune response during neoadjuvant endocrine therapy (NET) and to correlate this with the treatment response in a real life setting.

Backround: Identification of driver mutations and rapid detection of genetic changes in lung cancer are critical in the management of the disease. Genetic structures of tumor tissues tend to change constantly and the possibility of emergence of new pathogenic variants that will create resistance to treatment. Liquid biopsy analysis has been one of the most effective approaches used to monitor and identify individual genetic changes.

Background: Primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT) caused by a single benign parathyroid adenoma is a common endocrine disorder that is affected by regional differences. Living in different geographical regions reveals differences in the laboratory results and pathological findings, but studies on this subject are not sufficient. The article focuses on biochemical and pathological effects of geographical differences in parathyroid adenoma.

Background/objective: Since more solid evidence has emerged supporting the effectiveness of loco-regional treatment (LRT), clinicians consider LRT a treatment option for selected de novo stage IV breast cancer (BC) patients. This is the first report on long-term quality of life (QoL) in a cohort of patients who were randomized to receive either LRT and then systemic treatment (ST) or ST alone in the protocol MF07-01. We aimed to evaluate QoL in patients living at least 3 years since randomization using scores from the SF-12 health survey.

Background: Although hormone receptor positive/HER2-negative (HR +/HER2-) breast cancer is the most diagnosed breast cancer type, the immunologic aspects HR positive breast cancer (BC) has been neglected until recently.  The purpose of this paper is to review the current knowledge of the immune environment in HR positive BC and the potential use of immunotherapy in these patients.

Method: A computer-based literature research was carried out using PubMed, American Society of Clinical Oncology Annual Meeting (ASCO) and San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS).

Recently, the complex role of immune therapy has been the target of increased attention in breast cancer, particularly in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). Although TNBC is sensitive to chemotherapy, the recurrence and mortality rates are worse compared with the other breast cancer types. In addition, TNBC still lacks targeted treatment options.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study explored how geographical differences impact the clinical presentation and surgical outcomes of patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT) across three regions: Black Sea, Mediterranean, and Anatolia.
  • - Data from 694 patients across 23 centers indicated that the median age was 54, with 25% being asymptomatic; significant variations emerged in preoperative symptoms, serum calcium levels, and adenoma sizes depending on the region.
  • - Findings suggest that environmental factors related to different habitats influence the clinicopathological characteristics of pHPT patients, with South-East Anatolia showing all symptomatic patients, while Bulgaria had the largest adenoma sizes and highest calcium levels.

Multidisciplinary approach is recommended for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, in order to optimize quality of life and survival. Multidisciplinary cancer teams that are used for this purpose enable communication between professionals. Multidisciplinary cancer meetings are pre-programmed regular meetings where cancer patients are evaluated on an individual basis, and where the multidisciplinary treatment of patients is planned based on evidence.

Background: Multiple breast cancers may present with different clinical and biological characteristics. The data indicate that multifocal (MF), multicentric (MC), and bilateral synchronous (BS) breast cancers (BC) are more aggressive and have an equivalent or moderately poorer survival rate compared with unilateral cases. However, a comparison of these multiple breast cancers has not been covered in the literature.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women and accounts for 23% of all female types of cancers. It is well recognized that breast cancer represents a heterogeneous group of tumors, and the molecular events involved in the progression to cancer remain undetermined. Moreover, available prognostic and predictive markers are not sufficient for the accurate determination of the risk for many breast cancer patients.

Background: Triple negative (TN) tumor has a relatively high rate of recurrence and distant metastasis, but results of studies revealed that triple positive tumor is an independent predictor of axillary lymph node involvement. Our aim was to evaluate the frequency of nonsentinel lymph node metastasis (NSLNM) involvement in operable TN breast cancer with positive sentinel lymph node (SLN) and predicting the likelihood of NSLNM in this cohort of patients by using 4 different nomograms.

Methods: A total of 128 patients with TN and SLN(+) underwent complete axillary lymph node dissection in 14 different centers in Turkey.

The methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene is a polymorphic gene involved in folate metabolism, DNA biosynthesis, methylation and genomic integrity in actively dividing cells. The MTHFR C677T and A1298C polymorphisms are likely to play an important role in the susceptibility to breast cancer. In this case-control study, we examined the role of MTHFR C677T and A1298C polymorphisms in breast cancer patients.
