TrFAST: a tool to predict signaling pathway-specific transcription factor binding sites.

Recent advances in the development of high-throughput tools have significantly revolutionized our understanding of molecular mechanisms underlying normal and dysfunctional biological processes. Here we present a novel computational tool, transcription factor search and analysis tool (TrFAST), which was developed for the in silico analysis of transcription factor binding sites (TFBSs) of signaling pathway-specific TFs. TrFAST facilitates searching as well as comparative analysis of regulatory motifs through an exact pattern matching algorithm followed by the graphical representation of matched binding sites in multiple sequences up to 50kb in length.

Immobilization of Trichoderma viride for enhanced methylene blue biosorption: batch and column studies.

An efficient dye biosorbent was developed by entrapping a fungus mold, Trichoderma viride, within loofa sponge (LS) matirx. Immobilization enhanced the sorption of dye by 30% at equilibrium as compared with T. viride free biomass (TVFB).

Biosorption characteristics of unicellular green alga Chlorella sorokiniana immobilized in loofa sponge for removal of Cr(III).

Loofa sponge (LS) immobilized biomass of Chlorella sorokiniana (LSIBCS), isolated from industrial wastewater, was investigated as a new biosorbent for the removal of Cr(III) from aqueous solution. A comparison of the biosorption of Cr(III) by LSIBCS and free biomass of C. sorokiniana (FBCS) from 10-300 mg Cr(III)/L aqueous solutions showed an increase in uptake of 17.

Hybrid biosorbent: An innovative matrix to enhance the biosorption of Cd(II) from aqueous solution.

To enhance the metal removing capacity of a fungus biosorbent, a new idea of producing a hybrid biosorbent (HB) matrix by combining two different biosorbents using a simple and low-cost immobilization technique was tested for the sorption of Cd(II). The two biosorbents, used as the building block for the production of HB matrix, were the fungal biomass of Phanerochaete chrysosporium (B1) and fibrous network of papaya wood (B2). Maximum independent biosorption capacity of B1 and B2 was noted, respectively, to be 71.

Standardization of Anaesthesia Ready Time and reasons of delay in induction of anaesthesia.

Objective: Anaesthesia-Ready Time (ART) is the time taken by the anaesthetist to provide sufficient anaesthetic depth for start of surgery. Our aim was to set benchmark timings for ART and compare it with our current practice.

Methods: Benchmark ART time of 15 minutes was set for American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) class I and II patients, 30 minutes for ASA III and IV patients, 20 minutes for spinal and 30 minutes for epidural anaesthesia.

Quality of life in patients with pituitary tumors: a preliminary study.

Patients with pituitary tumors frequently complain of quality of life problems despite normal hormonal blood levels. The goals of the study were to determine whether the sickness-related quality of life reported by these patients was poorer than that expected by the general population and whether some of these complaints and areas of dysfunction were more troublesome than others. Forty-three patients from a southeast Michigan pituitary disorders support group volunteered to complete a survey focusing on demographic, disease data and common complaints plus the Sickness Impact Profile (SIP).
