Thrombosis is an important cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Pregnancy is a hypercoagulable state, and thrombotic complications in pregnancy are a major cause of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. Current guidelines support the selective use of aspirin, heparin, and warfarin in pregnant women.

The hemodynamic stress responses associated with it, though transient, are unpredictable and variable. In comparison with healthy individuals, those with comorbid health issues can have life-threatening complications with this sympathetic response.

Ribavirin clearly plays a role in chronic hepatitis C treatment response. The equilibrative nucleoside transporter-1 codified by SLC29A1 gene has been associated with ribavirin uptake into hepatocytes and erythrocytes. rs760370A>G single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) at the SLC29A1 gene may have a role in ribavirin-based regimen treatment response.

Previous data from our laboratory proved a supportive role for stem cell therapy in the treatment of end-stage liver disease patients. Therefore; this study was conducted to assess the clinical and biochemical effects of repeated stem cell infusion.

Aims: The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic value of serum sICAM-1, β-catenin, IL-8, proteasome and sTNFR-II in early detection of HCC.
Materials And Methods: Serum levels of IL-8, sICAM-1, sTNFR-II, proteasome and β-catenin were measured by ELISA assay in 479 serum samples from 192 patients with HCC, 96 patients with liver cirrhosis (LC), 96 patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC) and 95 healthy controls.
Study Design: Cross sectional follow-sup survey.
Objective: To ascertain the factors influencing community reintegration, of individuals with spinal cord injury living in rural environment, and to suggest measures to enhance community participation.
Setting: Bangalore, Karnataka, India.
Vibrio cholerae isolates recovered from cholera outbreaks in Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh and Delhi, Northern India were characterized. The O1 serogroup isolates from Bhind outbreak were of Inaba serotype whereas both Ogawa and Inaba serotypes were recovered from Delhi. PCR analysis revealed that only O1 serogroup V.

A new sandwich dot-enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (sdot-ELISA) was developed using omniserum prepared against different strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae as capture antibody and also as second or revealing antibody after its conjugation with horseradish peroxidase (HRP) for detection of pneumococcal antigen in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). A total of 103 CSF samples of different categories were screened with newly developed dot-ELISA and results were compared with commercially available latex agglutination (LA) kit. The newly developed sdot-ELISA was more sensitive than LA test and can be used as an alternative diagnostic tool in laboratory and in field conditions.

A total of 95 CSF samples comprising 15 culture proven, 47 clinically suspected but culture negative cases of meningitis and 33 controls were screened by above tests. Among three tests, LA was found to have high sensitivity and moderately high negative predictive value than CIE and CoAg tests.

Spontaneous perforation of the urinary bladder is a rare clinical condition presenting as an acute abdomen. It should be suspected in patients with a past history of radiotherapy to the pelvis, enterocystoplasty and those suspected of having a tumour in the bladder. Disproportionately elevated serum urea and creatinine should raise the index of suspicion.

These include relation to normal emotional reactions following injury, the use of physical and vegetative symptoms in the diagnosis of depression, the utilisation of rating scales primarily designed for use in psychiatric populations, the heterogeneity of patients with SCI, the role of preexisting psychiatric morbidity, the selection of controls for comparison and the necessity for multivariate statistical approaches to analysis. The issues and possible solutions are discussed.

Short term repeated exposure of 1-chloroacetophenone (CN) vapours at a concentration of 0.153 mg per litre for 15 minutes daily on 10 consecutive days in Swiss albino male mice resulted in increased mortality to Listeria monocytogenes. Significantly elevated bacterial growth was observed in the spleen and liver of the CN exposed animals.
