Group cases of pseudotuberculosis, first registered at health-restoring institutions of the health resort of Gelendzhik (the Krasnodar Territory), are described. The etiology of these cases of the disease was established on the basis of clinico-epidemiological data, specific seroconversion in 66% of the examined patients and the isolation of Yersinia pseudotuberculosis strains from the feces of four patients. The method of the serotyping of strains was used for the epidemiological evaluation of the role of different factors in the transfer of infective agents in 147 cases of diseases and carrier state, caused by NAG vibrios, in Karakalpakia. Questionnaires were distributed in 3308 families divided into two groups: group 1 with no cases of acute intestinal infections and group 2 where such cases were registered. Information contained in the questionnaires was processes by means of computers bzsm-6. The analysis of the data on the occurrence of characteristics indicating the quality of water supply and water consumption (25 characteristics), sewage and sanitation (12 characteristics), living conditions (19 characteristics) showed that the living conditions of the families in group 2 were worse than those of the families in group 1.

Samples of mineral water from thermal spas of "Matsesta" health resorts were infected with cholera vibrio strains. In nonsterile mineral water diluted with distilled water 1 : 2, 1 : 4, and 1 : 8 and stored at 37 degrees C survival periods of cholera vibrio constituted 289 days for classic biotype, and 413 days for El Tor biotype. In boiled mineral water stored at 20-24 degrees C this period was 1429 days for both biotypes.

On the basis of bacteriological and serological studies carried out during two outbreaks of food poisoning it was found that the disease was caused by NAG-vibrios of the I Heiberg group, serotypes 5 and 34 after Sakazaki. The disease was accompanied by isolation of NAG-vibrios from feces and the washings from the stomach, it was characterized by symptoms of acute gastroenteritis and enteritis of mild and moderate severity. The incubation period lasted from 3 to 30 hours.

El Tor cholera vibrios of Ogava serological type were revealed in the sewage of the locomotive shed for 15 months. In experiment with an oil catcher in naturally infected sewage El Tor vibrios survived 36 days, in storage of this sewage at the laboratory--39 days, in the artificially infected sewage of a settlement and of a milk plant--2 and 11 days, respectively, in the oil and disel fuel--14 months. Consequently, El Tor vibrio can survive in the sewage with a high oil product content for a long time.
