Aspergoterpenins A⁻D (⁻), four new bisabolane sesquiterpenoid derivatives, were obtained from the endophytic fungus, , together with eight known compounds (⁻), and their structures were elucidated by a comprehensive analysis of their NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance), MS (Mass Spectrum) and CD (Circular Dichroism) spectra. Aspergoterpenin A () was the first example with a characteristic ketal bridged-ring part in the degraded natural bisabolane-type sesquiterpene structures. The compounds ⁻ displayed no significant activities against four cancer cell lines (A549, Caski, HepG2 and MCF-7).

Whole-exome sequencing of Parkinson's disease (PD) patients has revealed that the frequency of GTP-cyclohydrolase I (GCH1) variants was significantly higher in patients than in controls. GCH1 rs11158026 was also found to increase the risk of PD. Relaxin family peptide receptor 3 (RXFP3) is implicated in the regulation of food intake and stress response upon activation by its cognate agonist relaxin-3. As an A-class G protein-coupled receptor, RXFP3 is an integral plasma membrane protein with seven transmembrane domains, yet influence of the membrane lipids on its function remains unknown. In the present study, we disclosed that cholesterol, an essential membrane lipid for mammalian cells, modulated the binding properties of human RXFP3 with its ligands.

Aim: The study was conducted to investigate the antibacterial and antiasthmatic effects of leaf extract, to find out its active components, and to assess its safety issue.

Methods: (1) Solid-phase agar dilution method was used for antibacterial activity test of nandina leaf extract and the change of bacterial morphology after treatment was observed under the transmission microscope; (2) guinea pig model of asthma was used to test the asthma prevention effect of nandina leaf extract; (3) alkaloids and flavones were separated from nandina leaf extract and were further analyzed with HPLC-MS; (4) mice model was used to assessment of the safety issue of nandina leaf extract.

Results: (1) Nandina leaf extract inhibited the growth of bacteria and destroyed bacterial membrane; (2) nandina leaf extract alleviated animal allergy and asthma; (3) the components reextracted by ethyl acetate were active, in which alkaloids inhibited Gram-positive bacteria and prevented asthma and flavones inhibited Gram-negative bacteria; (4) nandina leaf extract had no toxic effect on mice.

As one of the most troublesome complications in patients with chronic renal disease, the etiology of uremic pruritus remains unknown, and the current therapeutic approaches are limited and unsatisfactory. To identify potential biomarkers for improving diagnosis and treatment and obtain a better understanding of the pathogenesis of uremic pruritus, we compared serum metabolome profiles of severe uremic pruritus (HUP) patients with mild uremic pruritus (LUP) patients using ultraperformance liquid chromatography-quadruple time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-QTOF MS). Partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) showed that the metabolic profiles of HUP patients are distinguishable from those of LUP patients.

Objective: The purpose of the study was to examine the effects of laser acupuncture (LA) at right Neiguan (RPC6)/left Neiguan (LPC6) acupoints on the releases of nitric oxide (NO) in the treated and contralateral/nontreated PC6, compared to the nonacupoint control area.

Methods: 24 mW LA at RPC6, LPC6, and nonacupoint in 22 healthy subjects for 40 min: sterilized dialysis tube was taped to the nontreated PC6/nonacupoint during the treatment and immediately taped to the treated and nontreated PC6/nonacupoint after LA removal. NO-scavenging compound was injected into the tube for 40 min to absorb the molecular which was tested by spectrophotometry in a blinded fashion.

A novel zwitterionic polymer ionic liquid functionalized magnetic nanospheres, shortly as FeO@PCL-PILs, is synthesized by grafting ionic liquid VimCOOHBr onto polymer ε-caprolactone (PCL) modified magnetic nanospheres via esterification and surface-initiated free radical polymerization. This established synthesis strategy offers the obtained magnetic nanospheres with well-defined core-corona structure, compact grafting layer, favorable zwitterionic and negative-charged surface, and high magnetic susceptibility. The as-prepared FeO@PCL-PILs nanospheres exhibit typical "zwitterionic hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (ZIC-HILIC)" behaviors toward protein binding, and selectively adsorption of glycoprotein is achieved.

It is widely acknowledged that interleukin 17-producing T helper (Th17) cells are critically participant in the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis. In the current study, we identified that the expression of CD4T cells specific co-inhibitory molecule B7-homologue 1(B7-H1) in spleenocytes and mononuclear cells isolated from brains and spinal cord were positive correlated with Th1 and Th17 cells generation and disease severity in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE). Furthermore, B7-H1 transgenic mice developed milder EAE symptoms and fewer Th17 cells than B7-H1 wild type mice.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to detect the influences of LA at nonacupoint and two adjacent acupoints of pericardium meridian on the releases of NO and sGC in 20 healthy subjects.

Methods: Different intensities (12, 24, 48 mW) of infrared laser were used for irradiating Jianshi (PC5), Ximen (PC4) acupoints and nonacupoint for 20, 40 minutes, respectively. Semi-circular tubes were taped to the skin surface and filled with NO-scavenging compound for 20 minutes to capture NO and sGC, which were measured using spectrophotometry in a blinded fashion.
