Sintering significantly contributes to the deactivation of supported metal catalysts under reaction conditions, influenced by various factors, including temperature, atmosphere, and metal-support interactions. The sintering mechanism under the reaction conditions remains complex and ambiguous. This study delves into the sintering behavior of platinum on CeO under CO oxidation conditions, mainly employing transmission electron microscopy to elucidate the effects of different gas components on the sintering mechanism at elevated temperatures.

Article Synopsis
  • Lipids are crucial for the development and reproduction of insects, with lipases being key enzymes in lipid metabolism; a study identified 110 lipase genes in the Spodoptera frugiperda genome.
  • Most lipases were found to be neutral lipases, predominantly expressed in the larval gut, and displayed diet-specific expression patterns indicating adaptation to their hosts.
  • While neutral lipases in the gut showed a loss of triacylglycerol (TAG) hydrolytic activity, they retained this activity in the fat body, suggesting different roles for lipases in male and female reproduction, which could be targeted for new insecticide development.

  • A high portal pressure gradient (PPG) is linked to serious complications in patients with decompensated cirrhosis, but direct measurement is invasive and not practical for regular use.
  • * Researchers aimed to create a deep learning model to predict PPG values and identify patients at high risk for portal hypertension, who might need earlier TIPS treatment.
  • * Using data from 428 patients, a model based on three key measures showed an accuracy of 87.5% in predicting PPG and performed well in external tests, successfully differentiating high-risk patients.

Tetracycline (TC) is one of the most important therapeutic drugs that is widely used in hospitals. However, its harmful effects on human health and various ecosystems cannot be ignored. Owing to its poor metabolic activity and low biodegradability, TC commonly discharges as the parent compound and accumulates readily in sludges and soils by precipitation from wastewater, which can induce the evolution of antibiotic-resistant bacteria; therefore, it has been listed as one of the new pollutants with potential ecotoxicological risk.

Detecting a microwave signal that is emitted or reflected by distant targets is a powerful tool in fundamental science and industrial technology. Solid-state spins provide an opportunity to realize quantum-enhanced remote sensing under ambient conditions. However, the weak interaction between the free-space signal and atomic size sensor limits the sensitivity.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is the most malignant breast cancer subtype, characterized with high aggressiveness and a high recurrence rate. Olaparib is the first US Food and Drug Administration-approved poly(ADP ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitor (PARPi) to treat breast cancer patients with a germline BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation. However, resistance to Olaparib treatment restricts the therapeutic effects, and thus novel therapeutics are urgently required.

During the fermentation of ripened pu-erh tea (RPT), the composition of lipids and other compounds changes significantly. In this study, we conducted industrial fermentation of RPT and observed that the levels of water extract, tea polyphenols, free amino acids, catechins, caffeine, rutin, theophylline, luteolin, and myricetin decreased, while the level of soluble sugar increased. Additionally, the levels of gallic acid, quercetin, ellagic acid, and kaempferol first increased and then decreased during fermentation.

Background: From 2004 onwards, the Chinese government has freely offered complimentary Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) to Chinese HIV/AIDS patients, alongside the prescribed first line therapy of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART). Thus, we aimed to explore the effectiveness and safety of CHM for patients with HIV/AIDS.

Methods: The data from the Guangxi pilot database and antiviral treatment sites database have been respectively developed into two datasets in this prospective cohort real-world study, the CHM combined HAART group (the integrated group) and the HAART group.

The inversion of substrate size specificity is an evolutionary roadblock for proteins. The Duf4243 dioxygenases GedK and BTG13 are known to catalyze the aromatic cleavage of bulky tricyclic hydroquinone. In this study, we discover a Duf4243 dioxygenase PaD that favors small monocyclic hydroquinones from the penicillic-acid biosynthetic pathway.

  • This study explores the use of bacterial cellulose (BC) and a composite of BC with locust bean gum (LBG) made from banana hydrolysate as adsorbents for organic dye removal, focusing on malachite green (MG).
  • The BC/LBG(2%) composite showed improved swelling and textural properties while maintaining BC’s structure, resulting in an impressive MG adsorption capacity over 95% and 2000 mg/g, with a preference for MG against other dyes.
  • The adsorption process involved both chemical and physical interactions and demonstrated excellent reusability, maintaining over 88% efficiency after five regeneration cycles, making it a promising option for treating MG-laden wastewater.

As an important class of nitrogen-containing fused heterocyclic compounds, imidazo[1,2-a]pyridines often exhibit significant biological activities, such as analgesic, anticancer, antiosteoporosis, anxiolytic, etc. Using Y(OTf) as a Lewis acid catalyst, a simple and efficient method has been developed for the synthesis of C-alkylated imidazo[1,2-a]pyridines through the three-component aza-Friedel-Crafts reaction of imidazo[1,2-a]pyridines, aldehydes, and amines in the normal air atmosphere without the protection of inert gas and special requirements for anhydrous and anaerobic conditions. A series of imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine derivatives were obtained with moderate to good yields, and their structures were confirmed by H NMR, C NMR, and HRMS.

Understanding the neural basis of infant social behaviors is crucial for elucidating the mechanisms of early social and emotional development. In this work, we report a specific population of somatostatin-expressing neurons in the zona incerta (ZI) of preweaning mice that responds dynamically to social interactions, particularly those with their mother. Bidirectional neural activity manipulations in pups revealed that widespread connectivity of preweaning ZI neurons to sensory, emotional, and cognitive brain centers mediates two key adaptive functions associated with maternal presence: the reduction of behavior distress and the facilitation of learning.
